Review of the Halifax, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Extremely untrustworthy

Do not even apply for a mortgage with these extremely unprofessional individuals. Initially I was told that they would lend me £125,000 for the mortgage and gave an AIP. Next they said they'd only loan me £99,000 because I spent £3000 to book a holiday on my credit card (which is what sound minded people do for insurance). Next day they told me that they could loan me somewhere between £119,000 and £135,000 with the full and same details i gave them again. Two days later, after sending my application to an underwriter, they saidnthey could only lend me £113,000 and specifically stated that this as because I had booked my holiday in my credit card DESPITE me paying it off days later. Utterly vile individuals. How is that junk bank still in operation. Managed by idiots. Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Fantastic

Was told by many companies that I wouldn't be able to get a mortgage for the same amount to be able to move house. I desperately needed to move out of the area as I was experiencing domestic abuse from previous partners family. Luckily the Halifax gave me a mortgage, Caroline holland (mansfield branch) was brilliant and supported me throughout the whole process. Solid product for first time mortgage, couldn't match remortgage rate

Halifax gave me my first mortgage on my property at a reasonable rate. We went through a broker which smoothed the process, but as I was (lucky enough to be) gifted some funds from my parents we had an extra layer of scrutiny to prove where the money was coming from and to confirm that it wouldn't need to be paid back. This was all sorted and the product has been fine with regular payments taken correctly, with an easy process to set the payment date. I would have been happy to stay with Halifax when my initial rate ended, but they couldn't get close enough to the leading rate we were offered elsewhere. In summary, Halifax seem to be well suited for first-time buyers, but perhaps are not competitive enough once you've built up some equity. Reviewed on: 24th November 2017

Fantastic customer service!

As first time buyers, we were so nervous about getting ripped off on our first mortgage. We'd explored other options but eventually decided to go with Halifax, as we both held current and savings accounts with them already. From day 1, the process was so smooth. We met our Mortgage Advisor and immediately felt at ease. There were no pushy sales tactics and we really felt like she was on our side and trying to get the best deal for us. Half way through we changed the property we were buying and the change was effortless for her. She helped us through every stage until she left to go on maternity and even then we still had the best service from Halifax. We'd originally gone for the £400 cashback but right before we were due to complete, we'd seen the £1,000 cashback deal for new owners. As we were already completing, we were worried we wouldn't be eligible but after we expressed our concerns, they honoured it and gave us an extra £600 cashback, which helped us pay our solicitors bill in full. The best part, though? Receiving a lovely little tote bag full of new home goodies, including teabags, shortbread biscuits and more. Thank you so much for making our first home purchase a breeze! Great Mortgage Provider

A simple and cheap product which is easy to manage

Love my experience with Halifax around our mortgage. It’s been so simple to manage since we got it over 2 years ago. I can make overpayments on the banking app for any amount which is simple to use. I’ve also recently switched to a cheaper deal saving me money on the Halifax website in about 10 minutes.
