Basic stuff

When I joined, I was invited with a £100 swap over. The credit checks came back perfect but they never did give the reward to me. The branch in Haverfordwest is a nightmare! They keep changing the queue positions and what's the point in having three windows when only one is open! People wishing to deposit cash get in the way because of the poorly placed cash deposit machine. I hate going into branch. Reviewed on: 30th December 2015

Customer Service Beyond My Expectations

Chatting to a customer service advisor and I happened to ask about transferring an account to my Halifax reward Account. The advisor asked me if I had the details of the account so she could do the switch for me. Unfortunately I had not changed the address details since my move. That wasn't a problem to her and she promptly printed off the change of address details for the other bank, helped me fill it in, wrote out an envelope and put the paperwork in. I was seriously impressed with her help and assistance in transferring a TSB account over to Halifax. Reviewed on: 29th December 2015

Ok experience

I have had a Halifax current account for over 15 years. I am happy with the account and not had issues. The customer service is fine, but I have not had to contact them for any recent issues. The website is good as you can see all your accounts clearly. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Free money, whats not to like?

I've had a halifax reward current account for a while and never had any major issues with it. The free £5 a month isn't bad considering you don't really need to do anything to get it apart from a minimum payment in and a couple of direct debits out. The basic overdraft fees aren't too bad (£1 a day if less than about £1800) but if you go over that, it increases to £2 a day or £3 a day.. obviously if you're needing to use that much of your overdraft, £90 a month in overdraft fees isn't going to help, but overall a good account. Awful

We got a joint account, they should warn you if the other party decides to spend, spend spend and really they should be a bit more considerate! Left as couldn't stand them! Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Tricky start but eventually all sorted

I have had a reward saver account for a while now and everything was fine for a good while until I needed to change some of my direct debits and the way money came into and went out of my account. Suddenly the £5 month reward stopped arriving. So I set up a meeting with an advisor and went away after an hour hoping all was sorted, but 3 months later I realised things were still not working out properly. I went into a different branch and had another meeting with a very helpful advisor who has at last helped me sort everything out so it now all works well and the £5 arrives on time. The Halifax also back paid all the £5 I had missed out on, so it was definitely worth me persevering with them to get it sorted. So in essence I would say that this is a good account to have but keep an eye on your account. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Which other bank account pays you £5 a month to use it?

Initially I changed bank accounts to Halifax as I was getting a mortgage with Halifax and already had savings with them, so I thought it made sense for ease of use to see all my finances at once when I log in online. They offered me a generous overdraft, and will also pay £5 me a month if I pay in a minimum of £750, pay out at least 2 different direct debits and stay in credit, which has now made this account a no brainer for me. Good value.

You get £5 per month for just having this account. In the past I found the customer service to be poor with big branch queues however they seem to be getting better on that front. Overall not a bad service now and a good account. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Used to be the best but has fallen off its pedestal

I would say Halifax's free £5 a month reward account used to be the best on the market but then they introduced a requirement to pay out at least two direct debits. This is difficult to meet if you don't pay bills this way or if another householder is the designated bill payer for any bills that can be paid via direct debit. Halifax also used to be amongst the best in terms of interest rates for savers but now generally tends to offer pitiful rates. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Friendly and Empathetic Assistance

About a year ago, I noticed that I had over £2000 taken from my account fraudulently by Wonga, over a period of 48 hours. On going into my local branch, I was reassured and dealt with in a professional and kind manner. It had also caused my mortgage company to charge me £25 for bouncing a direct debit. This was refunded immediately. The money was refunded within a week which was very good too. My only concern was that the Halifax hadn't had a system in place that hoghlighted four unusual transactions within the space of two days from the same company. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015
