good but overdraft fees are extortionate

I've been with The Halifax for years since I was 18. They were always brilliant , helpful staff, signed me up to a student account when I was unemployed so I could have a full account with a check book. However since they changed their overdraft fees I am hugely dissatisfied. i basically might as well be paying Wonga as they charge £1 per day for using your arranged overdraft and yes I know they're lending you money and you shouldn't go overdrawn but how is it helpful to charge people who are short of cash more cash ? I basically end up paying £30 worth of fees every month because I don't have enough money to pay it off so I am trapped with The Halifax until I can. It is scandalous but as usual no uproar, they've been doing it for years now- think of all the money thy make from the poor.... Reviewed on: 29th April 2015

Great Card with good rewards.

This card pays you £5 per month to stay in balance and have 3 direct debits. I was on the ultimate but downgraded as all i was paying £10 a month for was my phone insurance. Now i pay £4 a month for my insurance with another provider and Halifax pays me £5 a month so i am now better off. Reviewed on: 28th April 2015

Best reward account, and free!

You can open a Halifax rewards current account as long as you pay in £750 each month and have two direct debits. They will then reward you with £5 (interest already deducted) meaning you can earn £60 per year. There is no condition that you keep the money in the account so you can remove the money right away afterwards. Pair with 2x Halifax reward credit card and earn even more rewards! A great current account with no fee and rewards

I have banked with the Halifax reward current account for about 5 years now. Each month you get £5 reward as long as you pay your wages in of about £750. If you also have the linked credit card and spend £300 you get another £5 a month. I use the internet banking site which is easy to use and gives me an up to date record of my transactions. I have never had any problems or difficulties with them and they have many branches nationwide so are easy to use Reviewed on: 21st April 2015

Great product all in one place

Rewarding and easy.

I recently changed to the Halifax Reward Account and am fully satisfied. As well as receiving the 100 pound cash incentive after less than a week, I also receive 5 pounds a month if I stay out of my overdraft. This is a great incentive to stay out of the overdraft and is a great little treat. Over the year this adds up to an extra sixty pounds on the original 100 for switching. Switching my account was simple as I used the switching service and the information I have received from Halifax is useful. The only downside is if you are somebody who constantly dips in and out of their overdraft, the overdraft fees are more favourable at other banks so i would avoid if this is the case. Apart from this, for people who stay out of their overdraft, I recommend this as a great product. Reviewed on: 20th April 2015

Good account, good service, could have more online banking features...

I have a number of accounts with Halifax and I've always been impressed with how much better they are then other banks I've used in the past. I have found the ability to ask questions via Twitter particularly useful, although I wish that there were more ways to personalise my accounts (e.g. reordering accounts when online banking, or having different-looking cards - they all look the same which can be confusing!) Rude, unclear, no transparency.

Halifax have succesfully upped my withdrawl cap from £500 to unlimited meaning I had £900 stolen from my account - when I asked why it wasn't stopped after £500? I was told 'sometimes we take that off certain accounts.' Naturally I didn't receive any compensation for the act of fraud on my account from Halifax. When your salary is only £1360 before rent and bills etc this is a HUGE sum of money which took me months to pay off. Or any communication letting me know this would take place. Recently Halifax decided to send out contactless cards and cancel all existing debit cards - once again I didn't receive any communication / or a new card - so now my debit card is blocked. Thanks Halifax. Now that I am earning double a month in my salary I will be closing my account and hopefully no longer dealing with this terrible company. I would also like to point out that the Branch Manager of the Holborn Branch refused to even see me despite my crime reference number in 2011 after my account was wiped. A big F**K YOU to Halifax.
