Review of the Halifax, Reward Current Account:

THE HALIFAX REWARD CURRENT ACCOUNT VALUES HARD-WORKING CUSTOMERS. IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU WANT FROM A CURRENT ACCOUNT AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE. Reviewed on: 9th April 2015

Good account, good service, could have more online banking features...

I have a number of accounts with Halifax and I've always been impressed with how much better they are then other banks I've used in the past. I have found the ability to ask questions via Twitter particularly useful, although I wish that there were more ways to personalise my accounts (e.g. reordering accounts when online banking, or having different-looking cards - they all look the same which can be confusing!) Rude, unclear, no transparency.

Halifax have succesfully upped my withdrawl cap from £500 to unlimited meaning I had £900 stolen from my account - when I asked why it wasn't stopped after £500? I was told 'sometimes we take that off certain accounts.' Naturally I didn't receive any compensation for the act of fraud on my account from Halifax. When your salary is only £1360 before rent and bills etc this is a HUGE sum of money which took me months to pay off. Or any communication letting me know this would take place. Recently Halifax decided to send out contactless cards and cancel all existing debit cards - once again I didn't receive any communication / or a new card - so now my debit card is blocked. Thanks Halifax. Now that I am earning double a month in my salary I will be closing my account and hopefully no longer dealing with this terrible company. I would also like to point out that the Branch Manager of the Holborn Branch refused to even see me despite my crime reference number in 2011 after my account was wiped. A big F**K YOU to Halifax. A bank staffed by human beings.

My old bank had always made banking seem like a chore. I was going through a financially tight month when I decided to try Halifax, the hundred pound they were offering for switching was much appreciated. At first I was skeptical, they were offering a fiver a month just to pay my money in there, regardless if I went and spent it all afterward, it seemed to good to be true. That day, sitting in that comfy chair, I couldn’t help still feeling suspicious as the young man took me through all the details. After about ten minutes of questions and smiles he told me it was open and the hundred pound reward was now in there, and all my direct debits and standing orders would be moved over by a certain date. I now feel a little bad for feeling that way, the reward was in there, my fiver is always on time and the service is always great. I can literally take a cheque, or some cash into the branch, hand it over pop my card in a reader and get a receipt, no more filling out forms and having some machine try to snap my hand off. A visa card came with the account, I’m yet to find somewhere I can’t use it. Personally this makes me feel very secure, I really don’t like to carry cash. The online banking facility is great too. I’m a person who lives payment to payment, I’m on a budget and have to plan my payments carefully. The extra fiver a month is a great help as are the ease of banking and online facilities. Halifax has made my life that little less stressful. I’ve never had a problem with them (touch wood) and I would recommend them to anyone. Reviewed on: 18th January 2015

A reward just for being me.

To some people, switching bank accounts is an arduous task with so much hassle and wasted time. To me, switching my bank account was the best financial decision I have ever made and I'm reminded what a great bank I'm with every single month. Initially, I thought there was a 'catch' with the limited time offer that was advertised for Halifax bank. "£100 for switching and £5 a month into my account when my wages are deposited?", I questioned in my head. When there is so much to gain, the amount to lose is lessened. I went for it! I met with an extremely helpful gentleman in my nearest branch. It was during my lunch break so the timing was perfect. You could tell by how helpful he was that this was a bank who values their customers - and who add value to their customers through reward of loyalty. My misconceptions of having to spend so much time to manually change my direct debits were explained clearly. Halifax did all of the hard work! With such a busy life, it was a nice feeling one of the most important parts of it was being professionally handed. Over a year on and I have received £5 per month from Halifax just for making sure my wages went into the account. And as for the £100 bonus for switching...well I still remember the last minute deal for a couples weekend my partner and I had! Thank you, Halifax! Reviewed on: 11th January 2015

Overall, my experience with Halifax has been pretty positive. I like the reward account in particular as it feels like a fair account - particularly the overdraft and the cash back is a nice bonus! Reviewed on: 18th November 2014
