Simple and Easy

Easy to us, detailed account information, useful tools, simple DD set up. Never have to call the bank, everything I need is online. Reviewed on: 12th December 2015

Advance Customer

Excellent customer service whenever I am in branch, they automatically upgraded me to a HSBC advance account which comes with a few extra benefits. Their main thing is that if you wait for more than 10 minutes or so in branch they send you to their premier customer advisers (who are normally sitting there not busy anyway) a small and sensible touch which so few banks do! Good customer service and easy to use account

The internet banking website and app is one of the best out there. Reviewed on: 7th December 2015

A reliable but sparkless relationship...

...which is why I'm strongly considering a divorce from HSBC. I've been with HSBC since I was a child (obviously not out of choice) and have stayed with them until the present day, my early adult life. It's not that HSBC are bad but in today's market, with all the offers of cashback and shopping voucher, I expect more from being a customer, particularly a loyal one. The few benefits there are involve paying in regular monthly amounts which isn't suitable for someone in my circumstances. In-branch customer service is fine and in my branch at least, there are an array of self-service machines. The call/contact centre people are helpful...once you get through to them, I've never had a current account with anyone other than HSBC so can't say how the waiting times compare but I'd be surprised if HSBC ranked highly. The call centre is foreign based which can be sometimes frustrating when after waiting a while on the phone, simply deciphering the accent takes up more of your time but like I said, the staff's professionalism isn't in question. Security is good. Suspicious transactions are blocked and security procedures are followed in-branch and over the phone. You require a telephone security number for the call centre to do anything useful. New debit cards are despatched promptly. I've not used online banking with HSBC but it's also not something they take a half-hearted approach to. My personal opinion is it's too convoluted, what with having to receive a keypad through the post and whatnot but I assume others appreciate it. In summary, HSBC provides an adequate basic current account but it's nothing special. I'd recommend looking around for a provider who might demonstrate their appreciation of you a bit more. 30 Years of Service

I have been with HSBC since I was a "Midland Bank" Griffin saver. I have a bank account, savings accounts and a loan with them. The website is incredibly easy to use and I access it daily. Moving money between accounts and paying friends is simple. The iphone app is also very easy to use. My only issue was before the days of internet banking. I really didn't like the telephone banking system and found that I never got through to anybody who truly understood my needs. I have no intention of moving banks. Reviewed on: 30th November 2015

ASSISTANCE AFTER BECOMING A WIDOW

AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED SUDDENLY, HSBC HELPED ME SORT OUT MY FINANCES, WORK OUT A BUDGET AND GAVE ME REGULAR UPDATES ABOUT THE OVERDRAFT THAT I OWED TO THEM FROM THE JOINT ACCOUNT THAT I HAD WITH MY HUSBAND, THEY SUSPENDED ANY INTEREST CHARGES AND CANCELLED ANY CHARGES THAT HAD BEEN APPLIED TO THE ACCOUNT. AFTER REGULAR CONTACT ABOUT THIS THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE PURSUING THE AMOUNT I OWED THEM WHICH I WAS A MASSIVE RELIEF. THEY ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH A NEW ACCOUNT SO THAT ANY BENEFIT PAYMENTS WOULD NOT BEEN USED TO CLEAR ANY OF THE OVERDRAFT DEBT PRIOR TO THEM CANCELLING THE AMOUNT THAT WAS OWED Reviewed on: 30th November 2015

Excellent Advance Bank Account

I have been with HSBC for approximately 15 years and have never had any problems with them. The staff in store and on the phone are always helpful and polite and with the automated systems in most banks this makes everyday tasks easy. Reviewed on: 24th November 2015

I'd probably recommend a more ethical bank to my family.

It's OK however I am looking to switch to a more ethical bank soon. That said I was allowed quite a large overdraft for a number of years without them reducing it or taking it off me, so that is a definite positive as it allowed me to pay off my debts as and when I could. They were also surprisingly decent when I was unemployed for a period of time, I was terrified they would take my overdraft away but it stayed. My current local staff are not the friendliest but the staff in Newcastle are great, and its a really large branch so it never gets overly busy. All in all though I'm a bit uneasy about some of HSBC's practices across the world, so once my overdraft is fully paid off I'll will look to move. Reviewed on: 20th November 2015
