Garbage and not safe for women

Called 4.40pm, alone in car park, electrical faults, told RAC would be there at 8pm. Had to move car as car park was closing and area was dark. Was told it was not safe to move car but then told by other operator it was my decision. Drove car with rattling engine to main road with hazards. Told it would be around 10pm. No escalation about female on own, in dark. Drove 5 mph home. Told RAC would be here by 1.50am. Escalation team rang said now I was home safe, no guarantee of time as other people may be vulnerable. What a ridiculous service. Spike to 9 people all saying something different. Wish I had never left the AA. Now told it will be tomorrow BUT no guarantee anyone would turn up. Terrible service

Don't use this company unless you want a terrible service. Waiting more than 5 hours for them to come with 5 year old in the car. Was promise couple times that they will come but no. The customer service keep lying. Reviewed on: 1st August 2022

RAC European cover refuced to come !

Hi, I bought a single-trip European brake-down cover and paid £63 a day thinking that will cover if anything happens, BUT! In Europe, my screen wipers fail, in the rain on the motorway, and RAC refused to come to help me up !!! Terrible response after complaint to the RAC complaint, team !!! Reviewed on: 14th June 2022

A 60 hour recovery nightmare

A 60 hour nightmare! I'm only giving one star because zero isn't an option. I have just had an unbelieveably bad experience with the RAC. My van broke down and I requested help at 12.30pm on Sunday. It was agreed that they would send a recovery truck to transport me and my van 120 miles to my home. To cut a long story short,they left me stranded, a lone woman with health problems, left for 12 hours at the roadside on a dark lane. Initially I was refused a hotel for the night but 4 hours later after practically begging, I was booked into one and told that I would be collected at 10am the next day. I spent all day waiting and was eventually taken back to my van at 5pm, only to have to return back to the hotel for another night when the van couldn't be recovered that evening. They lied to me repeatedly and I had no idea what was going on. Eventually they got me a taxi home on Tuesday afternoon with my van arriving home at midnight. It was 60 hours in total from when I first contacted them. Disgusting lack of concern and the worst customer service I've ever come across. I must say though, the patrol man who attended twice, was a lovely man and he did his best to help but the people on the other end of the phone made his job very difficult. DON'T USE THEM, APPALING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! & COMPLAINTS TEAM

Terrible customer service APPALING!!!!! DONT USE I had my breakdown policy with the RAC, I was happy with them until I had accidentally (without knowing or any contact) missed a payment, February 2021, I then a few days later called them out as I had broken down. I was told on the phone that the payment had not gone through, so I asked them if I could pay the monthly premium and I was told no as this account had been closed, I then had to pay £180 upfront as I had no other alternative other than being stuck on my own on a motorway layby. I then made a complaint about this and of course, it went in their favor as most companies usually do this as they don't want to accept blame or support customers who have been badly treated. At this point I ended up moving to another breakdown firm who I have now been with for some time and happy with their service. February 3rd 2022, I got a call from the RAC much to my surprise, I was asked about my renewal, I advised them that I had not stayed with them due to the service I had received, she then re-opened the complaint. On the 19th day of the complaint, I called up asking for an update as if not I wanted to be able to escalate further, I was told on the phone that someone would then call me back the same day before 7 pm, this didn't happen but around 6.45 pm I had an email to say that they needed a further 20 days to look into my complaint, which I was not happy about but I had to wait. 17th March, I then chased up via the Twitter page I then around an hour later get a snotty email that said the following: I've now looked into the concerns you raised on 3 February 2022 and wanted to let you know the outcome. 'Our records show that we responded to your complaint under a sperate case reference REF WAS HERE and our findings were emailed to you on 25 February 2021 and read at 10.28.My follow up email was also ready that day at 15.07. I'm confident all of your concerns have been fully investigated and that we're now at the end of our investigation process but can find no justification to change the decisions that we have conveyed to you. Whilst it is always our aim to resolve matters of contention to our customer's satisfaction, I very much regret that on this occasion we are not able to do so. Your rights of escalation were provided to you in the email on 25 February 2022 and this complaint will now ne closed. Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch we appreciate your feedback' They haven't even bothered to look into the new complaint that I put forward, I would not have even put the complaint forward had the lady on the 3rd February this year not mentioned it she did the complaint with me over the phone, something is wrong somewhere. The customer service and the way they treat customers are unfair! I also was not aware that the £180 was for the year! So I had paid out unknowingly for 2 x breakdown memberships, I suffer from severe anxiety and every time I have dealt with this company they have been so unhelpful and not understanding of this at all. Terrible service

On Friday morning 05th/June/2021on the morning. I was checking my engine oil and I found out it’s running low, I called RAC and after 30 minutes someone came and he said it’s only the oil is running low you need to top it up and they did not check it properly, he only added the oil and I asked him. Where did the oil go? He said that’s normal, job done! I was 60 miles away from home. And when I came back home around 7pm I check again and there was no engine oil, after that I called RAC and I told them what happened and they said someone will come in 90 minutes, after 90 has passed they sent another message saying 30 minutes and they kept on delaying us till 2.30 am. I called up again and they said someone might come on ,later on at 4:00 pm someone from a different company, and he said you have to take it to a garage and it’s got leak. My membership is included unlimited fix up to £500. When I called them to ask for this and she said your entitled to do all the fixing at your own cost . Which means they write on the internet what doesn’t actually go with the membership. I lost my job on the morning as I couldn’t get enough sleep on the night, I bought the engine oil and I took a recovery to fix it and took it a professional garage that actually got some people that understand with experience unlike people with RAC. If I had to wait for RAC they would have wasted my day again and will never be able to take it to the garage as they did the day before. Finally, I never had any benefits of this membership it was a waste on money and time. I also had to pay £161 for the garage+£50 recovery +£50 engine oil and I had to drive in risk of breaking the motor. This will be uploaded online so people’s actually read and cancel their membership before it’s too late, money doesn’t grow on trees. Good price and good renewal but when you need it useless

I have had full RAC cover since buying my car , firstly included in the package from the dealer , when it came to renewal they made a great 2 year renewal deal which worked out very competitive so I stayed with them . Service from the sales team was excellent. Never needed to use the cover but when it was needed and a late afternoon breakdown occurred I was shocked at just how bad they were , far worse than much cheaper companies I have used in the past . It took 3 calls and 5 hours to get assistance which arrived at 1 am from a local garage recovery truck , the driver was not a great fan of the RAC and spent most of the time informing me of other long delays the RAC had caused and how common these errors are . He ended up saying I think this is wrong but I haven't got the tools to fix it , I could tow you to the garage but it'll probably take them a week or so to fix it and it could cost you a fortune... BRILLIANT , will never use them again . Stick with the cheapest next time. Reviewed on: 10th November 2019

Rip off company!

Rip off company! Took a breakdown, parts and labour insurance for a 7 year old car and they declined to cover a broken clutch and forced me to use one of their authorised dealers which charged£1700 pounds even before they would diagnose which parts were broken! Both RAC and their dealer coerced me to pay upfront if I wanted the insurer to have a look. RAC parts and labour Customer services is terrible and they will hide behind 'Wear and Tear' clause for anything you try to claim... basically the insurance does not work for old cars... and it is pointless for new cars! Cheap first year

Gave a cheap quote for the first year but upped it considerably for the following year, for the same cover. Automatically renews which is also a pain. If you don't check your renewal quote within a few weeks, it disappears and you have no access to your documents, price paid, etc, even online. Reviewed on: 22nd November 2017
