Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Home Insurance:

9 Months and waiting for claim to be settled

1
My husband and I had our house broken into overnight whilst we slept - back in March. 2 Cars stolen (covered by separate insurance companies) - we also had a small number of items taken from the kitchen - handbag, purse, iPad and iPhone that were charging in the kitchen - 9 months on we are still waiting, we have provided all of the information we needed, photographic evidence, receipts etc.. at first the claim was denied, they said that there was a clause that there was no forced or violent entry - locksmith and police stated that they had entered by putting their hand into the cat flap and un-locking the door. The non-forced/violent entry clause was only applicable if the house had been empty for 60+ days. WE WERE ASLEEP IN BED!!!! They have passed us on to a claims handling company Davis Group - an absolute disgrace. 9 months later they are still giving us the run around, saying they are waiting on a copy of the policy report - we provided case number and Police Officer details who attended - why did they not do this 9 months ago. THEY ARE A DISGRACE - DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THEM Reviewed on: 30th December 2024

Stay Clear! It's a trap!!!!

1
My husband and I took Sainsburys home insurance, and close to renewal date, we received a much higher quote and upon checks online, decided to change our insurer for the following year. However, Sainsbury's have (unbeknownst to us), kept us on a "auto renewal" scheme and the letter informed us that unless we contact them by phone to stop the renewal, it will go ahead. Now that's where the Sainsbury's scam begins: You cannot stop the renewal by login into your account. The site tells you to call an specific number. When you call the number, after going through a long and irritating menu, you are simply cut off. So, we tried other numbers. Five in total. We got NOWHERE!!!! You are either kept on the line indefinitely (45 min at one point) or you are cut off. This is nothing short of a scam and we are so furious because our Bank says we need them to stop the auto renewal and they conveniently wont take any calls nor will allow us to cancel it online. It's a NIGHTMARE!!!!! Reviewed on: 19th November 2021

Very poor quality

narketed as a comprehensive policy, but doesn't cover contents in the garden, fences, hedges & gates from storm damage Reviewed on: 1st November 2021

Do not fall into the trap, stay away

1
Impossible to get through to them on the phone. I wanted to cancel my renewal because it was more than double what i could get elsewhere. But cancelling is next to impossible. They thought that by not attending to me, I will go away! It only made me determined to not use any of their services. Reviewed on: 19th October 2021

Very poor customer service.

1
Our policy has just come up for renewal and as the premiums had more than doubled we decided to cancel. Then came the fun part. Trying to get through the phoneline was practically impossible, I eventually found an email address to make a complaint and did recieve a phone call apologising. I explained that I couldn't access the online portal to cancel the policy but was told that there shouldn't be an issue. Also recieved a letter from Sainsbury's bank with a somewhat sarcastic undertone to it. If I could give zero stars I would. Reviewed on: 12th October 2021

Slippery

1
Claim refused as the leak problem could have been going on since previous policy. Pointed out previous 2 years policies also dealt with by same underwriter after their loss Adjuster suggested I contact previous insurers, One Call. Before that insured with Swinton. All these companies use Davies Group as underwriter. I've been told by my loss assessor this company is notoriously awful and will pretty much ignore me and just suggest I go to insurance tribunal in the end if I'mnot happy. I have borrowed funds for work required anyway and maybe I'll get a positive outcome in around 3 years time if I'm lucky. AVOID anyone underwritten/handled by Davies Group Reviewed on: 9th October 2021

Really Poor Bundled Package

1
I have had my home insurance with Sainsbury's and have always found them easy to deal with and cost effective. I pay towards Family Legal Protection, bundled in my package. I have tried to contact DLG Legal Services and can only say that I am frustrated and disappointed. Wait time is unacceptable and then it directs you to a Vodafone voice message. No welcome message, so this could be anyone's voicemail. I have no option to remove the cost of legal cover from my insurance package. This is a complete rip-off! Reviewed on: 4th October 2021

Difficult to cancel and hidden costs

1
It’s very hard to cancel your policy you can’t do it on the app (feels like this is on purpose to make you put it off). And when you do get a hold of them on the phone they’ll ask your credit card details on the phone to charge you around £110 for cancellation etc madeup fees. Wouldn’t recommend them as they seem sneaky Reviewed on: 8th September 2021

VERY difficult to cancel policy

1
I have never been more frustrated in my life and having read Mr Fishers review I had exactly the same problem as him, but mine was for my car insurance, there is no option to not renew your policy, it tells you that you have to phone them, so you ring them and are left on the phone waiting for at least 1 hour, I will never go with this company again and I too will be complaining to the financial ombudsman. My advice would be to go elsewhere for your insurance. Reviewed on: 16th August 2021

Can't cancel auto-renewal

1
I got an email saying that my policy would auto-renew in 3 weeks time. I don't want to renew as I got a better policy with British Gas. I logged onto my account and there is no way to cancel the auto-renewal except by calling them. This is an increasing popular scam by all insurance companies who hope that you just won't bother shopping around and by making the cancellation process very difficult they hope that you won't bother. I will be complaining to the Financial Ombudsman about this shady practice. Reviewed on: 8th August 2021

Do not purchase this insurance

1
Do not purchase home insurance with Sainsbury’s I rarely write reviews but my experience with Sainsbury’s home insurance has been awful. Despite being with them for several years, I have not claimed but over the past year I have needed to claim twice - an outside water leak and electrical problems. Useless and dishonest phone and text assurances from contractors about the progress of the claim. Would not cover the water costs but it took 2 and a half months of constant chasing 2 contractors to establish this. On the second occasion, they failed to recognise that my insurance covered emergencies- made me pay £114 upfront for an emergency electrician who never arrived. Will not be renewing my claim next year even if it costs me more elsewhere and would strongly advise others to avoid Sainsbury’s home insurance. Reviewed on: 2nd August 2021
