No Loyalty for staying with Tesco, just higher prices

Have never made a claim on either of my policies, however, the renewal price on both policies has jumped 62% on each policy! I accept that cost do rise every year, (exactly what all the others say as well!) but when its as high as it is, +£200 on each policy, then £200 excess and 20% dual payment on the rest of the bill, I'm wondering if its worth it! It seems if you change your insurance company each year you get the £200 rise off your new policy. It pays to shop around now and not stay loyal. Reviewed on: 23rd January 2025

Unclear terms and conditions

We were very disappointed with our experience. It seemed like more energy was put into trying to avoid a claim than providing any sort of service. Beware that there is an exclusion for “diagnosed behavioural problems” in the small print but apparently your costs incurred in getting to a “diagnosis” are not covered. This disparity was pointed out to the insurer and I was helpfully told they had come across this issue before but it seems had not sought to clarify this to their customers. Tesco - if you wish to exclude something then how about using plain English namely “we do not cover cost incurred in the diagnosis of and treatment for behavioural problems”. That wasn’t hard was it! Not actually covered for the first 14 days that it states

Avoid using these at all costs. Despite taking a policy out you actually are not covered for the first 14 days of your policy term despite the fact that it clearly states your term start and end dates. If anything happens to your pet in that time they will not cover it. Seriously, go elsewhere and buy your pet insurance from a professional outfit. Reviewed on: 20th April 2019

Quick payout

I brought Tesco Bank Pet Insurance about 14 days before my cat had an accident. The vet helpline was great and the customer service was superb. Claims form was easy to fill in and they payed out within days! Highly recommend. You don't want to worry about money for vet bills whilst one of your pets is ill so it was a huge weight off my shoulders. The policies are cheap and have a large payout and low excess. Kept me in the dark when i had queries then tripled renewal premium!

They don't explain or breakdown how they arrive at figures they are not going to payout you just get a letter MONTHS later telling you you still owe the vet! I was shocked at how much they hiked my premium after the first year!! Reviewed on: 21st September 2018

Lies, lies and shocking poor customer service

One of the top company that lie to customer and can’t defend themselves. I claimed pet insurance and spoke with 3 different agents about this same claim and got 3 differ t answers every time. At the end they cancelled my policy and refunded my premium policy from 1 st day. Shocking customer service, manager can’t explained why and how they lie to me each time. In total I was waiting over 8 weeks for my claim and waste over 5 hours over phone. Reviewed on: 22nd August 2018

Avoiding pay out

Tesco have been poor with the 2 separate claims for our pet Dog. They have taken an excess amount to process the 1st one. The second one was accepted but a continuation of treatment was rejected due to issues with the 1st claim. We have had to move heaven and high water to get the claims reviewed and we are still waiting for a response. Have cancelled my policy on renewal and will not be using Tesco Bank again. Rip off Tesco

Don't use Tesco pet insurance, they don't payout!!!! You take out the policy in good faith and when you they refuse, god forbidden you ask to speak to a supervisor it's a 3 day call back!!! They claim pre existing condition for arthritis he that he has only just been diagnosed, he has NEVER had it before. Save your money don't give it Tesco, according to the call center they are proud they refuse 90% of claims and use pre existing as an excuse. Well done for admitting that Gerry on the claims team. They didn't even have the decency to infom me. Be warned people and Tesco I'm taking this to the ombasman!!!! Reviewed on: 28th July 2018
