Lovely Complaints department employees

Had insurance turned down because of a ‘ lost in translation’ moment…. via owner— to vets —to insurers. customer service when I complained and disputed this was nothing short of exceptional. Won't pay up.

Just been advised that Tesco Pet Insurance are refusing to pay for dental checks and clean for our dog because the vet made reference to her teeth having mild to moderate calculus two and half years ago. He also said at the time no action needed other than continue brushing and cleaning routine. It so happens that this healthcheck which was actually for annual boosters was 11 days after us taking the policy out. This policy was taken out on the 1st March 2022 as that was when the previous policy lapsed. The 11th March appointment was already booked for annual boosters not for any other health concerns. Roll on 2 and half years and multiple 6 monthly health checks, on the last health check the vet advised that she would benefit having a scale and clean and x-rays because her teeth never look that clean and they wanted to rule out any underlying issue. I phoned Tesco Pet Insurance and was told this would be covered as long as she'd had regular health checks which she had. It turns out she has some rare condition that blackens the enamel and actually her teeth and gums are still strong with little tartar build up, no further treatment required other than usually routine. Tesco have refused to pay the claim for the x-rays and clean because the vet happened to reference teeth (but advised no action required) on the 11th March within 14 days of us taken out the policy. This is absolutely criminal and defeats the object of having pet insurance. This one decision has potential to cost us an absolute fortune in the future because other insurers won't take on what they perceive to be a pre-existing condition or if they do the premiums will be extortionate. It's no wonder owners have to get rid of their pets and put them into shelters, Tesco the premiums I've paid you to date more than cover this bill. I will be taking this one as far as I can, because as responsible dog owners we have done everything by the book and followed our vets advice throughout! Reviewed on: 26th September 2024

Great customer service

Had a good premium from them last year, good value for money. This year it was more expensive and I did find cheaper elsewhere. The Tesco policy was on auto-renewal which I hadn’t realised so a payment came out after I thought the policy had ended. I rang their customer services and they rectified it for me straight away, cancelling the policy and arranging a refund. Reviewed on: 4th September 2024
