Personalised to your needs and plenty of offers

The Barclaycard Initial was the first credit card I ever got, for the simple reason I needed to build my credit history. To start with it was one of the first to have contactless which is a very handy extra. They set me a small credit limit and provided I paid it off gave me a reasonable credit limit increase. There are lots of discount offers associated with barclaycard credit card including discounts. The card offers a monthly pay off scheme for large purchases. As well as the usual balance transfer offers you can also select to transfer cash to your bank account which is really good. They offer you deals often provided you keep up with your monthly repayments. Great product, great offers and easy to manage online or on the mobile banking app. I would definitely recommend this card to younger people who are looking to build their credit rating and like deals and discounts! GOOD IF POOR CREDIT

Accepted straight away for this card dispite not having a good credit history. Have found it to be accepted everywhere and I got a bonus of £20 after having it for 3 months and making payments regularly Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

Easy to get in, annoying to get out

Had no problem being accepted for the card. Put myself in a bit of debt, eventually paid it off and tried to cancel. The woman on the phone would not take no for an answer. She kept offering me various packages and deals and telling me I need it "in case of emergency". I repeatedly told her there is not a single offer she could give me that would make me stay and I wanted to cancel. She then offered me one more package after completely ignoring what I said and eventually cancelled it. I didn't have to jump through any hoops to get it in the first place, they practically threw it at me! Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Easy to get in, annoying to get out

I had a barclaycard for a couple of years, initially got it for a balance transfer on an existing card with another bank. Unfortunately they didn't give me the full amount so while the amount on my barclaycard was minimal and interest free for 6 months, I was still paying a lot of interest on my other one so couldn't pay back as much as I wanted. The online banking was simple to use and very user friendly when it comes to paying off extra or setting up a direct debit. I couldn't fault that at all. Once the interest free period came around, they started increasing my limit every 6 months but I couldn't get the benefit of it as the 0% deal had expired and they refused to put it up during the initial 12 months. I eventually got a bank loan with another bank to consolidate my debts and trying to cancel this one was a massive pain. I couldn't do it online or in a branch, I had to do it over the phone. I was connected to a person completely devoid of any emotion. I said I wanted to cancel and then she started offering me all kinds of deals, I politely explained that the credit card had caused me nothing but financial difficulties and I wanted it completely cancelled. She kept throwing offers at me and ignoring the fact that I repeatedly said "there is absolutely nothing you can offer me to make me stay. Please cancel the card/account". After 5 minutes of her clearly reading from a script, she eventually cancelled. Whereas when I cancelled my halifax card, before she even offered me anything I just said "Please cancel it, it's caused me nothing but grief and I don't want another credit card again" and she laughed and said "no problem, i'll cancel that for you right away". Overall not a bad card but would have been nice for a bigger balance on the 0% deal and someone a bit nicer on the phone Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

they were understanding in sorting charges out

they helped me refund loads of charges which were plonked on my account when i couldn't make payments due logging in problems very understanding if you have the time to speak to them. Reviewed on: 7th May 2015

extremely good and great customer service
