Do not bother

We recently started a bathroom renovation. Upon the bathroom being ripped out our builder discovered that 5 joists under the floor boards had rotted from water damage. This was unbeknownst to us as there hasn’t been any indication of a leak. I contacted Hastings to explain and they at first were great and quick to sort out alternative accommodation for us due to having no access to toilet facilities. 4 days later a surveyor came, the claim was declined and we have been left not knowing which way to turn to make our house structurally safe again. And given about 18 hours notice to check out of the hotel we had been put up in. The claim was declined as the joist damage was put down as previous damage to before our policy was taken out as the surveyor said their must have been a long term escape of water from somewhere to cause the level of damage. He then also put it down to failed sealant around the bath which is an exclusion on the policy even though the bathroom is a complete shell back to brick so he was clearly just making a guess! If we wouldn’t have started the bathroom renovation we would have been none the wiser to this damage until a serious accident happened and the bath fell through the kitchen ceiling. How can a claim not be valid when there is no evidence of any escape of water that we could have fixed? We are a young family with a disabled child. His health is now being put at risk as he has respiratory issues that require us to give him steam baths regularly. I am utterly disgusted with Hastings lack of morals. I have hone, contents and car insurance with them. Not for much longer!! Reviewed on: 27th October 2023

Old and stressed and feeling gullible

As with most companies there are lots of promises of customer care. Sadly, there is little if any care here. OK, I have probably made a mistake by making a claim on a small item, but at my age things get blurred. Hastings passed my details to SBS who also made great claims of customer care. After two weeks without my Tablet phone, I had heard nothing, so I contacted SBS who told me "they could not talk to me as they has passed my repair details back to Hastings : "SIX days previously" and that I must contact Hastings Direct, giving me a "direct" number. Calling that number put me through an extended series of number entries/ button pushing, ...for the call to be finally cut off, instructing me to use app or account online. Further attempts gave same result. So, accessing my account, I find Hastings cannot talk to me either ... and I am instructed to ring the underwriters: "Advantage" via a number displayed on screen. I finally got to speak to someone, at Advantage, who did not even ask me who I was...,just to be told: "if it was about a claim there was no-one who could talk to me because they have too many claims". The next day, I made further attempts to contact and find out about my item, but could contact no-one. Finally, I filled in an online complaint form. Even that has not been acknowledged. What do I do now? Go to the ombudsman ? I would be so much happier to have my money back and get a repair myself. It would be far less costly to me all round - especially after I have paid the excess. It also seems that that my premium could go up by well over £1000 next year. All this, grief for a small claim for broken PC Tablet screen and with 9 years no claims bonus. What is more worrying is that we also have car insurance with this company. Now, of course, I have read the reviews. Too late. It certainly seems that have paid insurance premiums for nothing. I always watch the insurance scam programs and feel sorry for the insurance companies and get annoyed about premiums getting higher because of them. I now see the other side of the coin. Terrible company.

I have my buildings and contents insurance through HASTINGS. Complete waste of money as they don’t pay out on anything, even with the additional Home Essentials cover I paid for too. First they wouldn’t pay for a central heating repair as the water in my CH system was too cloudy. Then refused to pay out for faulty electrics with my bathroom downlighters, as they all stopped working. Said I had to get an electrician out myself to diagnose the problem before I could make a claim!! Ridiculous. Reviewed on: 15th June 2023

Excellent experience

Credit Help

I have been making regular payments on a loan that was opened in Oct 2022, but my lender did not report my account to the credit bureaus until Dec same year. When this account popped up on my credit report, it showed that I had only made two payments even though I had not missed a single payment. I filed a dispute with the credit bureaus and contacted my lender to fix the problem on my credit report. They've been back and forth for months now with no signs of repair. Hasting direct home insurance

I took out a policy with Hastings direct and six months later. I had a bathroom leak and we called the insurance company. A guy came out and it was a long procedure and then in the end they have voided my insurance and refunded my money back, but when I took the policy out, why didn’t they explain all this it’s just they are not happy paying people out for the insurance claim, and now I’m stuck without a bathroom without money I would recommend not to go with them Reviewed on: 21st March 2023

*AVOID* they take your money but hate paying out!

Accidentally damaged a ring and lost the stone. Despite repair cost being under the quoted 'value' they wouldn't pay out because the entire ring was worth more..???.. So, if you want a valued item repaired under insurance don't bother claiming. Take good advice: *Go elsewhere* Reviewed on: 22nd February 2023
