I recently applied for a mortgage with HINCKLEY AND RUGBY BUILDING SOCIETY and was initially approved for £288,000. However, the offer was unexpectedly reduced to £273,000 without a clear explanation. Despite paying a £199 application fee, I have yet to receive a refund, despite multiple attempts to contact customer service. This sudden change caused significant stress and wasted valuable time. I believe the lender's initial assessment was flawed, as the discrepancy of £15,000 is too large to be attributed to a simple error. Additionally, I am disappointed that my bonus was not fully considered in the initial decision-making process. If you are considering applying for a mortgage with HINCKLEY AND RUGBY BUILDING SOCIETY, I would advise caution. The calls are picked up swiftly and all of the team provide every assistance within an impossible and highly frustrating regulatory framework. The proactivity in terms of calls from them to navigate through the forms and identity verification in the context of the timeframes in a dynamic interest rate environment is exceptional. Welcome phone call to acknowledge receipt of application for a savings account. My only comment is that the Society asks for hardcopy applications rather than the online application process offered by many competitors, and issue of a passbook is definitely a traditional - perhaps outdated - business model, though no doubt welcome to customers that are less digitally confident Reviewed on: 23rd November 2023
