We have to balance the interests of our savers and our borrowers, who pay the interest that savers receive. Online saver

Applying online was straightforward as with other providers but what a rigmarole followed with having to provide proof of my nominated bank account! I have opened many online accounts before and since with none of this nonsense, they are all fully sorted instantly. So what's their reason for demanding that? Reviewed on: 22nd March 2023

Great Building Society for investment

Recently opened a savings account which all went very smoothly and subsequently opened a one year ISA . The internet banking is very easy to use and the people who answer the phone were very helpful when I needed them. Great to be able to book a ring back call .Interest rates are among the best for these savings. Reviewed on: 21st March 2023

Too behind the curve

Strange how one has to close an account and open another to receive the latest interest rate; not what one expects when other financial providers regularly text to notify of rate rises. Strange too and quaint how one receives a paper certificate for an account opened and operated online. Waste of paper and postage. This provider is also very slow to respond to changes in Bank Rate and to adjust its interest rates to savers. Suspect some efficiencies could be made generally with a robust review of the Society's practice and procedures. Reviewed on: 21st March 2023

As a smaller Society, it is simply not practical for us to contact all our customers whenever we launch a new product - and they can be withdrawn very quickly if they are popular. We have to make tactical short-range decisions about raising extra savings deposits to fund our mortgage lending dependent on the rates that we can lend out at that time. Our aim is that we continue to offer value for money and competitive rates, along with excellent customer service. We continue to look at ways in which we can be more efficient, and your comments about paper certificates have been passed to the relevant department, so that they can consider improvements to our communications in this regard. OPENING AND FUNDING OF A NEW SAVINGS ACCOUNT

MADE INITIAL CONTACT WITH THE FAMILY BUILDING SOCIETY PRIOR TO OPENING THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT. SPOKE TO MANDY. AFTER MY CONVERSATION WITH MANDY I FELT COMPLETELY AT EASE AND ALL MY QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED WHICH REASSURED ME THAT I WAS MOVING FORWARD WITH THE RIGHT OPTION FOR MY SAVINGS. MANDY WAS KIND REASSURING KNOWLEDGEABLE AND WILLING TO ASSIST AND ENGAGE WHICH WAS HELPFUL. I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR ANY MORE IN A PERSON.
