Review of the Admiral, Travel insurance:

Admiral travel insurance are AWFUL!!!

1
Whilst on holiday with my son and daughter, I was seriously injured when a skier collided with me, (his fault), on 14/03/2024. After being rescued by the ski patrol I was assessed at the medical centre at La Plagne who then sent me to Borg Saint Maurice hospital for brain and MRI scans. They discovered that I had internal bleeding so I was immediately flown, by helicopter, to CHU Hospital Grenoble to fix my broken spleen. After the operation I spent three days in intensive care and another sixteen days in hospital before being released on 02/04/2024. The French hospitals were superb and the treatment I received was first class. My son an daughter were very concerned for my welfare so they immediately left the resort and relocated to Grenoble. Once I left intensive care they returned home. It is only now, over six months later and many prompts from me, that Admiral are finally settling outstanding medical fees owed to the French hospitals. I was also asked by Admiral to provide proof I was actually in hospital at Grenoble from 14/03/2024 to 02/04/2024! Concerning my claim for expenses, for six months my daughter and I have endeavoured to supply Admiral with all the relevant information they require. However, their Portal is difficult to use and I found it impossible to add any files or documents to it. I was shocked to discover that Admiral claims DO NOT read any incoming emails. I had to telephone them and specifically describe the email then ask them to 'download and read it'! So far Admiral Insurance have had valid invoices and receipts for travel, accomodation and medical costs sent to them. But this is not enough, they are now demanding copies of bank and credit card statements showing the actual payment of every item being claimed, along with the circumstances behind each and every claim. This includes bank statements showing cash withdrawals for when cash was paid for taxi hire, buses etc! My son and daughter have been 'out of pocket' for hundreds of pounds for over six months now. Despite hours on the telephone with Admiral Insurance there is still no sign of any settlement forthcoming. The Admiral complaints procedure is ineffective, inefficient and unsatisfactory and they can take up to eight weeks to reach any conclusion. (I will continue with my complaint via the Financial Ombudsman). After six months of dealing with Admiral Insurance, their apparent reluctance to settle my claim and their insistance on ridiculous ammounts of evidence is causing me increasing levels of stress, worry and frustration. It is certainly not helping with my recovery. I expected far better from what I thought was a reputable company. Date of experience: 14 March 2024 Reviewed on: 20th September 2024

Very disappointed with my travel insurance experience.

Very disappointed with my travel insurance experience. I wasn’t able to go away due to my daughter coming down with chicken pox. I called straight away to let them know I wasn’t able to travel. I got doctors letters along with form they requested to be filled out, flight cancellations forms done. Proof of bank payments with emails to show I wasn’t issued refunds. Hotel cancellation letters with proof of no refund. Train tickets with proof it was not refundable It still wasn’t enough. Still waiting weeks on end for an outcome to my claim. They are taking excess fee for myself of £50 fine but also an extra £50 for my daughter who’s under two. It’s disgusting how I’ve been treated. It’s taken a toll on my mental wellbeing because I’m feeling exhausted and so upset, Which has caused me stress related headaches leading me to bed and having to make a doctors appointment. I wouldn’t recommend using admiral. They sell you the what you think sounds great with “we cover you for this and that” and are lovely as you like when it comes to taking your money and joining them. But when it come to needing to claim they treat you so poorly and they want to do anything they can to not pay out. Reviewed on: 12th May 2025

I tried to make a claim for my missed flight due to my wife having a stroke while on holiday. I have my own policy and tried to claim back my flight and I was told to claim on my wife’s insurance which she doesn’t have as she is a cancer sufferer and insurance is far to expensive so what is the point in me have my own personal insurance. I couldn’t just leave her as she was unable to walk or attend the toilet. So I have cancelled my policy as it’s not worth the paper it’s written on Reviewed on: 3rd May 2025

Difficult and Flawed Process

My wife had her purse stolen whilst on holiday in Spain, resulting in her losing a designer purse, designer handbag, some cash and a mobile phone. We initially felt reassured as we had a travel policy in place. However on making a claim this reassurance has unravelled piece by piece. The way they work is that the handbag/purse are one claim, the cash is another, and the phone is another (gadget), and each claim is independent of the rest and have their own excess charge to pay! On top of this the whole claim process requires a huge amount of information and multiple proof of ownership of each item. I'm not exaggerating when I say the claim took about 8 hours, scouring bank statements, credit card bills, photo albums, calls to phone providers etc. Unfortunately we were unable to find some of the information, and in one case the value of the items was disputed resulting in 2 out of 3 claims being rejected. Finally, for the phone cover, consumers should be aware that they dont do old for new, nor even have a threshold for one for new as their analogy is "well you could have a ten year old phone" (which we didn't, as they can see this based on the huge amount of information and evidence they asked me to provide). The process is not user friendly, and overwhelmingly feels designed to significantly reduce the chance for payout. All in all, I would urge significant caution when taking an Admiral Policy - read the small print, and pay a little extra for a more robust and consumer friendly package. User Admiral Travel insurance since 2023 & upgraded to Platinum each year. Jan 25 we had goods stolen from our cases in France CDG airport. We had a brand new pair of trainers & a bottle of perfume from duty free in Miami. Paris was a 6 hr stop on way back to UK. We had receipts & we know it happened in CDG My Mom had items taken from her case too in CDG and they didn’t go from MIami! We had receipts & put a claim in against the theft. Admiral has rejected our claim of under £200 for insurance that costs us £££ per year! Thank god it was £££’s stolen and a couple of hundred. All staff just fobbes us off saying our claim is under investigation. This has been on going for nearly 4 months of forms & calls. It’s as if they just want us to get fed up of chasing. I would never recommend this company for world wide travel insurance. Please don’t make the same mistake that we did by going with Admiral. Our renewal was due in March this year we have now gone with another company. We will never use Admiral again for any insurance! Reviewed on: 13th April 2025

Claiming, a waste of time

1
I took out Admiral Gold travel insurance, only to later discover I already had an active policy on the same account. There was no warning or flag—just a duplicated payment. While frustrating, that’s not even the main issue. My bag was stolen during my trip. I submitted claims for the stolen items, one of which I also claimed on my home insurance. That claim was handled and paid within days. In contrast, several weeks later, I’m still caught in a repetitive and drawn-out process with Admiral. Admiral advertises a 10-day response time for claims, which is already quite lengthy. What they don’t mention is that this is just an initial review. If they need additional evidence, they’ll ask for it at the end of that period—triggering a new 10-day wait with each new request. The real problem is that they don’t assess the entire claim upfront. Instead, they stop at the first issue they encounter, request evidence, and only move on once that’s resolved—creating a cycle of delays. For instance, I mentioned in my original submission that one of the stolen items was a gifted electric toothbrush. Despite this, they made two further evidence requests over the following 20+ days without ever addressing that item. Only now have they asked for proof of ownership. Their solution? A “gift claim form” that must be completed and signed by the person who gave me the toothbrush—despite it already being listed in the official police report. Alternatively, I could submit a photo of myself with the item… because we all have selfies with our toothbrushes, right? At best, this process feels disorganised. At worst, it appears designed to discourage or reduce payouts. Insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind. Instead, I’ve spent more time chasing this claim than it would’ve taken me to earn the amount I’m claiming for. It's been a total waste of time. To make matters worse, I shared this frustration in a recent call with Kane (standing in for the usual handler, Tilly). Both were polite and professional, but clearly restricted by the flawed process. When I explained my concerns, Kane offered to raise a formal complaint—though clarified this would not speed up the claim or change its handling. In short: my reward for highlighting how much time and effort this claim has taken? An offer to spend more time on a separate complaint process that leads nowhere. Reviewed on: 10th April 2025

I had a fall whilst on holiday in Fuerteventura on 2nd January which resulted in a broken wrist. The hospital over there recommended that I return home asap has I would likely need an operation, which I did. Despite having supplied the information required by Admiral (many times over) I have still not received any payment! They where fortunate because I went to the local hospital not a private one. I am only claiming for the new flight and the 6 days unused accommodation. I would not recommend Admiral to anyone, my dealings with them have made a traumatic situation even more stressful! Admiral is not a reputable insurance company!

My husband missed his flight home due to landslide on route to the airport. He had to get a flight the next day. He was only claiming for his flight. He has sent in all the documentation but they still want more. His friend who he travelled with was reimbursed within two days without having to provide so much documentation over and over!
