So moved our medical cover from a competitor which I will add has been brilliant. We moved as my company chose to move to Aviva. Well now I need some medical assistance ( not life threatening) but I can’t get hold of anyone. 4 days now I’ve been trying to call them and no luck so far. Each time I am on hold for an hour listening to some pathetic music and an apology for the wait. God help me if my condition is life threatening. These people just don’t answer the phone. They make you jump through so many hoops, I've phoned many times and it's always a bad experience. If it wasn't for my work i wouldn't have used them, now i need to pay about 1000k in total for just a simple health issue i had, cash back companies, are far better than Av... Ignored, denied, any excuse not to help you. They make you jump through so many hoops, I've phoned them very confused about the delays and all the repeated questions and ended up hanging up in tears because it was so stressful. My work pay for my policy but I've cancelled it today because my NHS GP is far more helpful and quicker to respond. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Reviewed on: 11th April 2025

No respect for their customers

Yes another painful attempt to use my Aviva health insurance which is paid for by my company. They can't assess me for 3 days, I've already been in pain for 4 days. What's the point? These folk will do anything to avoid paying out - they frustrate you, run down the clock and make it difficult to access care. I've yet to have a trouble free claim with them. Non-functional App. Non-existent customer service

We have had Aviva for around 10 months and all was well. In the last two weeks we have tried to book a doctor’s appointment and found the app non-functional. Two calls and numerous emails have resulted in nothing, just broken promises. A doctor’s appointment was arranged by email and Aviva even suggested emailing pictures of the ailment to a generic email address and then the email would be passed on to the doctor. Abysmal service - avoid!

My broker found me this policy, and I decided to proceed. I contacted them not long after policy started, and after 2 calls, waiting for over 45mins - I opted for a callback, which after a week never appeared. I’m afraid for £175 per month, I used this as a sign that I shouldn’t proceed with the policy so cancelled the DD. 1 month later they wrote asking to me complete a new DD mandate. I wrote back advising of the terrible service, to which they just cancelled the policy.... Reviewed on: 9th February 2025

Crap. Will deny on any basis.

Crap. Slow to reponse to claims, and take any excuse to deny a claim. Mine was denied as I had been tired at some point the past 5 years before my policy, and I told the doctor that. Completely unrelated to my current claim, but now denied. Waste of money. Reviewed on: 24th January 2025

Horrendous. Utterly diabolic!

Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. A nightmare. Utterly diabolic system, specifically designed to put your in constant stress, strain and struggle, so you run out of energy and give up. I have been having Aviva health insurance policy for a few years at the time I had to make a claim. Everything was fine while I paid, its a big company, so you kind of thinking you are protected, they have such a nice and shiny web site… Then when you dare to make a claim, this is where a night... Old school Delay, Deny Defend insurance company. Avoid

Compared to BUPA or AXXA which I had in the past, Aviva is a joke. Most reputable health insurers will have its own private GPs that will get you seen within minutes and if needed referred to a specialist straight away. Furthermore, MSK problems will not even need a referral and will simply go through their internal system when you request to be seen by a specialist.
