Disaster of a credit card company - total fail! We recently tried adding our John Lewis Partnership Card to Apple Pay, only to find it blocked by NewDay, the card provider. Shockingly, this happened... Read more Reviewed on: 24th December 2024

John Lewis Credit Card

1
Both myself and partner are disgusted with New Day. Credit Limit halved, wrong information given, application lost and one application not completed by them. Spent hours on the phone and have now applied for a credit card from our Bank, accepted and received by return of post. After years of being a loyal customer and paying in full we are disregarded and insulted by New Day and John Lewis Partnership. We have abandoned our applications and as always will pay our balance in full and wave goodbye! Reviewed on: 25th October 2022

Partnership card refusal

1
Have had partnership card for many years and always paid off balance every month. Recently retired. Enough money in bank, but not drawing a pension yet. Now refused new partnership card, because not getting a regular income. Called John Lewis customer service, but the answer is a “computer says no”! Thanks JL! Reviewed on: 25th October 2022

Shocking customer service

1
I have spent hours trying to manage the change to New Day and encountered long fruitless waits for someone to answer the phone. I was told I had received a code to use online, but this was not the case, so I could not get any further than the opening page on the website.. I have decided I have no more time to spend on this matter, and after 40 years with a partnership card, I have given up. This whole affair has left me very disappointed and dissatisfied and. very sad that John Lewis should oversee such a fiasco. I have always praised it for its reliability and customer service but this reputation has been severely damaged Reviewed on: 25th October 2022

Turned down by new provider despite top credit rating

1
Had the previous card for over 10 years, a £6k limit, paid off every month, and an excellent credit rating. After being refused, I appealed and was still turned down and given no reason. Did eventually get one but unimpressed by the whole process...another bad turn by John Lewis Reviewed on: 25th October 2022

Rubbish customer service

1
I had a suspicion that some reward points and a voucher had gone missing. I asked them to provide information on vouchers issued and if so, had they been used and where. All I got back was some rubbish about the Partnership card closing down. Had they read the questions? Obviously not. I got the feeling that wherever my enquiry had arrived at might not be UK based and the answers were just being churned out. Numpties. I know the card is closing down, just answer the question. Where are my vouchers? Reviewed on: 24th October 2022

No way to treat old customers

1
Got my new card. Impossible to activate and when I go on-line it tells me I do not exist. Impossible to call as nobody answers and then today it is occupied all day. Then JL have the nerve to say you get triple points on all purchases on the card. Really upset about this. Reviewed on: 24th October 2022

New John Lewis Card

1
Had problems paying for my Ocado online shop. Annoyingly had to wait for code to mobile phone. Tried 3 times got the code but couldn't input the numbers. I rang Ocado who helped me to pay their end. Said the problem was with Newday and advised me to ring them. Rang Newday, hung on for 20 minutes and gave up. As a John Lewis cardholder for many years with no complaints . I am unhappy that they have made these changes, which are definitely not for the better. Reviewed on: 24th October 2022

Not really a credit card!

1
I have my normal/old John Lewis payment being taken at the end of this month, as usual, so was very shocked to find that I now have ANOTHER payment being taken for the transactions THIS month on the new card. As I made a large transaction on 12th of the month, I now have to find that money this month, which I was not expecting - and if I'd known I'd have to pay for it so quickly, would have paid differently. I'm sure it's in the small print, but I naively assumed the new payment schedule would be similar to the old card. Very disappointed - and I've just tried to ring only to be told the wait time is at least 20 minutes (and it took several attempts even to get through, and 3 minutes of listening to different options before they told me that!) Very disappointed. Will be cancelling and using another card after this has been paid off. Reviewed on: 24th October 2022

What a mistake

3
I'm surprised that so many people feel the same as I do about this new card, I thought it would just be me. They advertise free balance transfers for 6 months but neglect to add there is a 1.99% service charge . I haven't renewed, John Lewis is a shadow of their former selves-such a shame Reviewed on: 24th October 2022

How to commit corporate suicide

1
Like other reviewers I have had a JLP credit card for years, pay off each month, never defaulted, and have solid financial resources (and am retired so monthly incomehas gone down, though my financeshave not). Apart from being p..ed off at having to reapply for a credit card that I have already got, I was incandescent when i discovered that my new credit limit was a tenth of my old one. And if I wanted it to be increased I'd have to make yet another application. Sorry but this card has now gone in the bin. There are plenty of other rewards-based credit cards out there.
