Applied for a loan, had a call to request more additional information such as payslips, tax return(self employed) before application could be processed.Dragged on for 2 weeks then decided to tell me as I had only been self employed for 9 months they couldn’t give me a loan as it is ‘company policy’ to reject loans for people who have been self employed for less than 12 months.Would have happily accepted the explanation had they told me upfront and not strung me along for 2 weeks.Poor customer service.Avoid at all costs

I recently transferred my bank account to M&S and have been really disappointed. While I understand that security is paramount, you can't transfer money to someone from your mobile (if new) - you have to log-in via their website, and you can't do that without the stupid calculator-type thing! It is so annoying and I am regretting moving to them. Once it hits August, and my £5 a month of M&S vouchers is over, I will be moving to someone else sharpish. M&S needs to move with the times!

M&S is the only credit card I know that does not allow overpayments. They returned monthly payment once statement in credit but did not notify me. Which bank refuses payments from customers? Poorly informed customer service. I could not recommend them to anyy

I wanted a debt consolidation loan for 2 credit cards to reduce the monthly interest I was paying.
I did an online search a came across M&S loans who were advertising loans at 2.9%.
I applied for a loan (having an Experian credit score of 999), went through the application process and supplied all the required information accurately.
The next day I received confirmation that I had been accepted for the loan at 6.9% and just needed to call up to confirm I wanted to proceed.
Although this was higher than the advertised interest rate it was still lower than what I was paying on my credit cards so decided to accept.
On that call I was asked to provide 2x payslips which I did. They stated they would call me back to confirm the slips were acceptable and confirm the loan was in place.
Having waited several hours for a call back which never materialized I called M&S again.
On this call I was told that I had been refused the loan because I had a high balance on 2x credit cards!
I explained that the whole reason for applying for the loan was to clear the credit card balances and pay less interest (which I also stated on my original application).
The woman on the phone would not listen and it got to a point where she was plain rude and told me that the decision was final.
Disgusting customer service.
Why tell someone they have been accepted for a loan to then pull the rug from under their feet 2 days later?
All the information I provided was 100% accurate and I was able to back that up with evidence when it was asked for.
I would avoid M&S loans like the plague, with customer service like this it's no wonder they are a struggling brand.

Applied for loan, met all their criteria. Received initial email that said I would have a decision within 5 days. Then nothing, no request for information. On the last day as it was getting close to them closing so I called to see if the application was being dealt with, I waited ages to get through to be told that there was a request sat on the system for more information and that no-one had picked it up in order to send an email out to me. They said they would send the email out immediately and if I got the information to them I could call back in 15 minutes for a decision. I was told at this stage that my high credit rate had secured their lowest lending rate 2.9% and that I just had to send proof of self employment and bank statements. Received email and it clearly stated that I needed to send proof of self employment by means of SA302 form or business bank statement showing name and address. Also asked to send 3 months bank statements. I sent this through within half an hour. I left it an hour and called them back and had to wait in a queue again to eventually get through to someone and then get passed (holding again)through to the underwriting team who said I had been sent the wrong email and that I needed to send my entire tax return i.e. 30 odd pages that you would submit online or that your accountant would do on your behalf. The woman's manner was just simply rude and very abrupt when I asked if it was the actual entire tax return and not just the SA302 tax calculation that you get from HMRC. I stated that if it was proof of income that they were after I could send SA302 that is a calculation from the tax office confirming income that you are taxed on. She said no we need the entire tax return. Very odd as the tax return is something you do yourself / your accountant does. The SA302 is the document that is used by mortgage companies to confirm income for self employed. I'm not sure if she was confused with what the SA302 or was just having a bad day (It was Friday evening) but I ended up cancelling my application and went to my bank instead, higher rate but far less hassle. It has been a complete waste of time. The worst thing has been the lack of communication from them. If I hadn't rang the application would of just sat there pending waiting for goodness how long until someone decided to contact me to request the information. Maybe they don't like self employed people but they should state that in their initial criteria if that is the case. I met everything on their checklist. Bad service avoid.

Be wary about buying an M&S Car insurance , as i received a renewal quote from them for 700+£ & i just requested for an address change , that doubled the insurance to 1500+ £ , whereas i got offers for the same address from other vendors with the original offer price of 700+£, what the hell on this Earth could fire up your insurance quote to double just for an address change ; unless M&S customer support reps are trained to cheat on their existing customers. Very bad experience with M&S customer support .

My fist ever claim after 14 years of driving, and it had to be with them!
Similarly to other reviews the initial contact was good, I was assigned a personal claim assistant and I hopped for the best. Sadly Zenith the underwriter don't care at all ( missed appointments, replacement car not delivered etc) When complained to M&S, they said it nothing to do I should complained to the garage and the insurer. Spent hours on the phone to arrange a repair, shocking lack of customer service. After a month my car in finally in for repairs. Shame on you all, will never buy again!

I've spent most of the last 3 weeks being very grateful that I had M&S pet insurance. Sadly I lost my cat, after a 5-day stay in hospital which totalled £5,006. M&S covered the whole bill, and did so through a direct claim, I only had to fill in 1 form and then nothing. They also automatically cancelled my policy when they were informed of the death of my pet, and refunded me so that I only paid the premium up until her death, without my even having to ask. Yes, they are a little more expensive than some, more budget options but I would not hesitate to use them, and am recommending them to anyone looking for pet insurance. The excess was only £50 too, amazingly. Thanks M&S, you made a horrendous time easier.

Twice in 6 weeks I have had a transaction denied, both transactions were to well known UK companies. Customer services are conducted in some far off country where English is not the first language. It took quite some time to navigate through the telephone system, making the correct choices before getting to talk to someone. I am told my transactions were denied for ‘security purposes’. I’ve never, ever had an issue when I used a Tesco card or an Adam Bank card. So, M&S, Hear it here, I do not have time for your faff, or your second rate, third world based customer services. I will be cancelling my account.

After seeing them come up on several comparison sites including moneysupermarket who I usually find quite trust worthy, I thought I'd give this one a go as I wanted to carry out a 0% interest balance transfer.

Well, the only modern part of the application was applying for it online. When I read I'd receive the terms in the post I presumed the card would come along with it too, alongside my limit. Well they did send terms but that was for me to sign and return before they send a card. (Do they recruit people who did office work in the 80s and couldn't adapt to computers?) .

So after receiving my card I wanted to sort out the balance transfer, to do this I had to register for an account, but to pass the security questions I needed to know my limit, at which point I couldn't proceed because they hadn't told me. I then had to call someone who went through enhanced security in order to sort this out. The app is very outdated, you can't even amend the way you want to make a payment, or change the amount, you have to call!

Very clunky, so far not amazed. Will see how this goes long term.

I ignored all the bad reviews and have made the biggest mistake transferring to them. They are worst than awful. Opened a bank account, credit card, home insurance and saving account with them and now need a loan that they have refused. Their security checks for the opening of the bank account and the credit card have gone against my excellent credit score. How ridiculous is that. Joined in Oct 18 leaving Feb 19. Forget all the freebies they offer when you join as you'll eventually pay for them.

Just spent an hour trying to make a transfer between accounts then had to try standing order, eventually had to call them who were fine but still time wasted for something straight forward. Please invest in a user friendly system soon
