Steer Clear This bank has froze my account several times, most recently on payday for the staff. It then takes hours to get this unlocked. I sent details required... Read more Reviewed on: 31st October 2024

Santander employee acting like a fraudster

A person recently phoned me, who claimed to be Santander employee and asked me to state my Date of Birth "to pass security". At that point I had no way of knowing, whether this really was a Santander employee calling me, or a fraudster fishing for my personal information. Guess my surprise, when a few weeks later, I learned that this really was a genuine Santander employee !? I complained to Santander about this practice, but they have the audacity to defend their practice, and do not want to change their security policy. This sets a dangerous precedent. If Santander acts in a way, that customers can not distinguish a genuine Santander employee from a fraudster, this is exactly what the fraudsters want, because it helps them to clear out people's bank accounts. Not too good

I have been a customer for 14 years (and have had a few other problems during that time) and called in to sort out what I thought would be a very simple problem - out of the blue they have started sending me letters every time a basic transfer is made! To tried to go through security but some questions referred to facilities I have never used - e.g. cards. They asked me to call in again - I did with same result. After demanding to speak to complaints, complaints said that they couldn't log the complaint because security was not passed, and the only possible way was to waste time physically visiting a branch!! Superb Service

Called their helpline ‭0800 085 1633‬ to open Business Bank Account, extremely helpful person put me within 5-6 on call with a business manager. Was given the option to open account on phone, took about 35 mins all questions were relevant to the business, was asked if any exisiting contracts - said No and she said fine. Director details were asked and a credit check was done all within 35 mins. Account was seamlessly sorted/opened with free business banking for a year. Great service and nothing more to expect. Still waiting...

Further to my earlier review, I'm still waiting to hear back from Santander - 3 months later. I have written to them 6 times asking them to delete the personal data that they gathered about me as part of my application. No response, so I guess they still hold my data - without my consent - isn't that prohibited???? Terrible service - I'd advise anyone to try elsewhere. when One Star is an Insult

Based on recent experiences with the bank I've been with since I was 16, one star is even insulting. Kept on hold listening to music for 25 minutes then the red devils promised to call back between 12 and 4 today, which they never did so I have gone without the customer support I was promised by their call centre, even though I am a loyal customer of 12 years. Very poor, very shoddy work, Santander. Don't open a current account with this bank! Reviewed on: 14th May 2018

Absolutely useless

Been trying to open an account for 11 weeks. Just been told by one of the staff that I should go somewhere else as it’s likely to take weeks more!!! Impossible to get a response and I am know unable to receive my contractors pay as I have no bank account! Absolutely hopeless and totally unprofessional. Reviewed on: 9th May 2018

Do not use if you are a start-up

I have been trying to open a new business bank account for 4 weeks. As we are just starting up we do not yet have any contracts and agreements in place - these will follow once we are able to put in orders. Note that you can't put in an order till you have a bank account but they won't give you a bank account till you prove you have the orders - a classic Catch-22. Santander have been exceptionally unhelpful even when I've managed to get through to a manager to discuss the issues - they are just box-tickers who have done nothing to help progress the application. I'm not asking for credit, overdraft or loan just a sort code and account number. Their inflexibility over the documents required and their refusal to engage in a constructive conversation means that I have now gone to Nat West who have been fantastic - they have opened me an account within 5 days and they could not have been more helpful. Poor customer service

When I opened the account I got a £1000 over draft. Even though the welcome letter confirmed it but my account doesn't show and called them. They hold me on phone for 15 minutes then said we will call you soon and hanged the phone and never call me back. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2018
