Great for small businesses

Really good for small businesses - zero bank charges as long as you don't need to write / lodge a lot of paper cheques. I run two businesses and both use these - never had any problems. Reviewed on: 17th November 2016

Pathetic and antiquated

Today I told Santander to cancel my business account application for a multitude of reasons, but here are the main points: *Told online application takes 3 business days *Applied on the 31st July online. Was emailed 4th August requesting more identification but this all had to be by post. *Also needed a cheque from my bank account to the business bank account. Haven't had a cheque book for 13 years, additional delay in ordering one. *Send documents away 23rd August *Hear nothing. *Phone on the 13th September - informed their service levels have slipped and it will be 15 working days *Hear Nothing *Phone on the 26th September, told there is still a queue and I'll recieve an email soon. *Receive email on 28th September telling me one of my of my documents can't be accepted due to the spelling of my first name, and the other isn't acceptable but no reason is given. *Tell them to cancel and stick it. Honestly, a waste of two months. Also, when I phoned for progress reports, I was often told everyone was too busy so I should call back later. No hassle!

I have a business account with Santander which I use most days. They have been very supportive over the years and the staff in the bank and so helpful and understanding. I have an overdraft which doesn't coast a fortune and I can manage my account on line with no hassle. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

Simple and Perfect (them, not me!)

Becoming self employed at the start of this year was a little daunting. I tried to apply for business bank accounts from 2 very well known High Street Banks and quickly became bogged down in the paperwork - as a beginner I couldn't even understand some of the questions! They had no-one to help me and, frankly, didn't seem interested in my business. Then I decided to try Santander. Their online application was quick, easy, jargon-free and stopped me feeling like I'd failed before I'd even started! Since opening the account with them, it has been plain sailing all along. Staff in the local branch bend over backwards to help me and I'm seriously considering changing all of our personal bank accounts to them in the near future. Uncomplicated

Santander has very favourable conditions for new startups (particularly zero account fees). The services are easy to use. One thing that would make it better is more business planning / financing advice. Reviewed on: 16th February 2016

Penny pinching

I have been with Santander for a number of years. Their business bank account was good value as they don't charge a monthly fee - a necessity for small businesses. However, very disappointed that they have stopped awarding monthly interest (now 0%)!! This is the same for their sister company Cahoot. Will likely switch companies now as I don't agree that banks (that make billions every year) can make money off my money and not give out any interest. Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Surprisingly good

We did a bit of research when looking into setting-up a business account and santander came up as a good choice. Can't say they are exceptional, but we've avoided a lot of the negative points other businesses seem to have encountered. Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Great Business Banking Support

I most value the support we get from the bank which is used online or over the phone. We chose Santander as they seem to be the only bank who realise what a shambles the high street bank has been making of things. Reviewed on: 20th January 2016

Hellish to set up

Business Banking was hellish to set up. I experienced nothing but problems. The bank literally took months to set up the account with no exaggeration! They kept coming back asking for more documents etc instead of asking for everything upfront at the start. It made things very difficult. However, since the initial nightmare start up, it now seems to be running pretty well. Reviewed on: 20th January 2016
