THEY SHUT MY BUSINESS ACCOUNT AFTER 18 YEARS WITHOUT NOTICE-76 K IN FUNDS STILL OUTSTANDING

I have have had thIs Santander account for my business for 18 years (Previously it was Alliance and Leicester before Santander took them over) In November 2022 they summarily closed my account,without notice or reason having made me ,and my business partner expend quantities of time on AML verification ,which included listing all my assets in detail along with a plethora of other items that were way beyond the normal scope of AML procedure. What a waste of time! Since closure of the account they have failed to return my funds 76,000 GBP despite 6 week elapsing. I have made numerous appeals and wasted countless amount of time on phone calls to a series of hapless agents in their complaints dept! I have been told variously,that a cheque was in the post,that a cheque has been lost and cancelled,that a new cheque is in the post,that a bacs transfer is being done to my nominated other account,that they can t actually do a BACS transfer......and so the saga goes on. This is deeply stressful and could have caused operational and reputational damage to my business which has a flawless credit history. Myself and my business partner also have top credit scores and are full UK citizens domiciled in the UK and with full UK tax status. Santander are a total disgrace and should never be allowed to treat people like this. Please avoid this strange organization!They have revealed a dimension of incompetence and callousness that I have only ever read about existing in 3rd World countries. THE WORST BUSINESS BANK IN THE WORLD

Santander is possibly the worst business bank in the world - AND THAT IS BEING POLITE - they are so dreadful. They literally cannot do a single thing without a COMPUTER SAYING NO!!! If you want business banking, go to a PROPER BUSINESS BANK - that will support your business with good advice, offering financial support to grow your business and who are able to actually read a P&L or Balance Sheet correctly. I ASSURE YOU SANTANDER are unable to do this. If your business turns over more than £10K its the wrong bank for you - they are just too small and do not have the experience to do so. Santander worst service ever

They block my accounts without any reason every December. Last month they couldn’t unblock it during two months. I lost my reputation and partners because of them. They didn’t care. This year just because I didn’t sign something (although I had time till 16th January 2023) they blocked all my accounts again. Two weeks, three visits to their office, many promises, nothing has changed yet. As soon as they open them I will definitely change the bank. Santander is the worst! Reviewed on: 12th December 2022

Awful bank

Provided information on 2 separate occasions for money laundering purposes.Despite this and the fact we’ve banked with them for around 16 years they’ve still blocked both of our business accounts. Unbelievable Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

Santander blocked my business account to force me to undertake their know your client questionnaire As part of the questionnaire they asked for details of all my income all sources of savings and all funds I had whether or not the funds go into my business account - they then wanted a copy of my tax return my payslips my rental agreement which are all funds that don’t go into my business account When I said I didn’t want to provide information not relevant to the business account they stated the account would remain blocked until I did - basically blackmailing me - when I asked to speak to a manager to discuss the level of information they were asking me for they refused to let me speak to someone Don’t use this bank unless you want your privacy and financials violated Reviewed on: 26th September 2022

Horrendous customer service

Echoing what a lot of people have said here, the customer service is truly terrible. Avoid starting a business account with Santander at all costs! I have no idea how any business properly functions using it. We (foolishly) decided to do the simple action of adding another signatory to our bank a couple of months ago. Since then, our transactions - even if they're standard ones that we always pay - are regularly flagged as security issues, meaning that our online banking access gets blocked. So, you ring up the customer service number and it takes (no exaggeration) roughly 1 hour each time to complete the call. This happens probably every ~2 days at the moment. I asked Santander at one point how long it would be before our account stops getting flagged for security issues and they recognise the new signatory and they said it would be soon but they couldn't tell me exactly how long "for security reasons" (you can't make it up!). The maddest thing is that we sometimes send £90K+ payments and nothing gets flagged, and then a £300 card payment to Dropbox etc. will get flagged and block us out. The worst situation happened about a month ago when our online banking access was blocked and we were told we had to go into a local branch to get it unblocked. I went to the branch, got it unblocked (after about an hour), only to return back to the office to see that the block hadn't been properly lifted. I then called up again (another hour), and the person told me that they thought our online banking details had been accidentally deleted. She said she would send us new online banking details in the post which would take 5-7 days!! In the meantime, all we could do was make all our payments over the telephone, which was an absolute nightmare. I didn't care about complaining because what's the point, but a member of the complaints team contacted me anyway and we chatted through the issue briefly. After a few days I got a letter in the post from them saying that "After investigating the issue, we have come the conclusion that the problem was not the fault of Santander". Honestly. On another occasion, it was insisted that we had to go into branch again to get the bank unblocked. The person I spoke to was super rude about it and wouldn't allow us to unblock our account over the phone. So, I just hung up the phone, called again, spoke to someone else and they cleared up the issue instantly! I could go on and on with similar examples where no two people at Santander say the same thing or know the same things; they are completely incompetent. The only awards that Santander should win: - Longest wait times for a customer service team - Number of times they'll block you out of your own account - Most annoying "on hold" music of all time (honestly, I could sing this tune in my sleep). We'll be moving to another bank shortly and can't wait! Reviewed on: 28th July 2022

Terrible service

After setting up a standing order, our business account was locked. I spent two and half hours among several calls waiting to be connected to the relevant team. The security team told me they would raise an internal ticket with their back office to unlock the account immediately. That didn't happen. We will now let down our customers who expect a payment on time. Reviewed on: 29th June 2022

Horrendous customer 'support'

In December I lost £2k in a scam. I have been trying to get my money back ever since and the Santander customer support line is completely useless. Every time I call I get a different response, and in some instances total rudeness (someone told me to 'be quiet'). I thought I was making progress with one conversation, then the next time I called that conversation hadn't been logged. Another time in March I called and got told that my case had been 'declined' in December but I had received a letter that the claim was ongoing in January. Now my case is being passed onto complaints and I have to wait 3-5 days for a callback when it's not even complaints I need to speak to. 30-40 minutes wait time each time I call customer support as well.
