slow to answer and difficult to open an account

Took days to get any response to my application and then accepted a bank statement as evidence if address but not a new passport as evidence of identity unless it is certified ! Opened other accounts recently. Never been asked to send certified copy before. Waste of time. My investment will go elsewhere. Reviewed on: 18th October 2023

Easy to open !

Hopeless trying to register

For 48 hrs I have been try to register/log in onto their website. I have been provided with User ID, formulated my password and was sent an activation code. All works until you reach the last obsticle, your prefered mode of 2nd authentication. The screen keeps saying 'error occcured return to main menu' Tried calling 5 times and all I get is the engaged tone. I am moving on to another BS to deposit my money. Reviewed on: 10th October 2023

On line login

Is totally useless. I've been trying in vain to activate online access for over a week now. Waiting for activation keys, changing passwords, talking to your customer service centre, All advise and instructions they gve leads to the same result - my activation key is out of date even if it was only sent by email minutes before and then my account is suspended yet again. I'll be closing my account and moving my funds to another place as this is utterly unworkable. i Reviewed on: 4th October 2023

Existing customers beware

Reply from Harpenden Building Society Hi Tom, Thanks you for your feedback, and I'm sorry to understand you are unhappy with the pricing of our products. We have recently introduced two new products, a 90 Days' Notice and an Online ISA account. Our 90 Day's notice account is paying a rate of 5.50%. As part of this launch, we also increased the rate of all of our previous-issue 90 day accounts so that existing customers will be earning the same as new applicants. We would also waive any notice periods for existing customers who wish to transfer to this product. The Online ISA is priced to represent the limited access and distribution of this product and for customers who are happy to apply and manage their accounts online. We have recently updated our processes to allow customers to apply for new products without he need to complete a full application form. We have and are continuing to make significant changes across the savings range, and as a result 99% of our savers are getting a higher than average savings rate. We have also recently added a feature to our website to encourage customers and non-customers to register so that they can stay informed of Harpenden Building Society news. This will include new product information and how to apply for new products.
