Delay Delay Delay

1
Applied for mortgage in first week of July It is now coming up to mid-December, and don't even have an offer. "Two day turnaround" for reviewing documents is actually 4 days, before you can escalate the case. Note that escalation can take "one day" (three) to return to you. Reasons for delay vary from an incorrect valuation (said the property was underpinned, 1 month and several fees later showed it wasn't) and documentation they should have requested at application stage being requested 3 months later. Great product, user-friendly and they seem to be on your side (by comparison to most!)

Excellent value for a first time buyer

I got a first time buyer's mortgage through the Nationwide recently and they have been really helpful, especially when I've contacted them with lots of questions as I am new to the mortgage game. The mortgage itself is at a very competitive rate and had no arrangement fees - in fact I got £500 cashback after completion! I also had the very welcome bonus of a new home box delivered on the day I moved in full of goodies and useful items - everything from teabags, biscuits and mugs to a home magazine, toilet paper and kitchen roll. They have a secure message system online which I have used a few times and they always get back to me quickly with the correct information. I already had two other products with them to it was easy to log into the system. I would definitely recommend them as the branch staff are also helpful and friendly and there are still lots of branches around. Reviewed on: 14th November 2016

Great service at a great rate

I easily acquired consent to let my property out with nationwide. They made it a swift and easy process, with minimal cost. I was expecting to have to change to a far more costly landlords mortgage, thankfully they helped me avoid this. Reviewed on: 14th November 2016

best company we have used for mortgaging

We remortgaged back in 2011 to Nationwide. The process was really easy and all contact was friendly and professional. We have since remortgaged again in 2013 and 2015 and stayed with Nationwide both times as they have offered the best rate for us. The process has been so smooth and easy each time , stress free and worry free. I would really recommend you give them a look if you are thinking of changing your mortgage. mortgage approved quickly, but poor communications

I decided to use Nationwide for my first mortgage, and was impressed by how quickly it was approved. The application process was all done online, which I loved, and was simple and clear. However, I found the communications I received while waiting for the approval to be confusing. A number of the emails and texts about he process of the application were very unclear, and I ended up having to phone them for clarification. This made a stressful time even more stressful. Friendly and helpful

4
Applied for our Nationwide mortgage by phone as an appointment was available faster than in branch and we couldn't apply online as the mortgage ends after age 65 for my husband. Fast, friendly process with email updates on progress. Application fee (but not valuation or survey fee) is refundable if purchase doesn't complete, unlike most banks. Also, liked that we could email, unlike HSBC who we always had to phone (very time-consuming). The only problems were with a last minute request for proof of savings when we'd earlier been told all necessary documents had been in received. Also, there was confusion over a 5K retainer based on our valuation. Fortunately all was resolved in time for exchange 6 weeks after our offer had been accepted. Completion (nearly 3 weeks after exchange) was problem-free. We moved our current account and savings to Nationwide soon after, making overpayments via online banking easy.
