Bunch of sharks

1
Bought insurance through comparison site. After week contacted by company claiming I'd failed to declare a previous incident. Which I had input on the site. Increased premium charged. What really annoyed was a £39 administration fee for their systems failure. Making the insurance more expensive than other I turned down on the comparison site. Reviewed on: 27th January 2023

OneCall - ironic for a company that doesn't allow calls

1
Completely incapable insurer. No phone lines, don't call you back when you request it, just left in the lurch. Reviewed on: 27th January 2023

Useless

Worst company I've ever had to deal with. You get passed from pillar to post and getting hold of a human is impossible - AVOID at all cost Reviewed on: 25th January 2023

FRAUDS! THEY USE THEIR OWN GARAGE TO TRY AND WRITE OFF YOUR CAR TO MAKE MONEY

1
If you want your mental health to fall in to a deep black hole then get car insurance with One Call Insurance/One Insurance/OC Motors! Whatever they want to call themselves!! I had a little accident over Christmas, hitting a wooden post and barbed wire. When I put my claim in, first claim and accident in nearly 23 years of driving I have totally fallen victim to fraud at its best and a massive scam to make money off me! In a nutshell I have had to withdraw my claim and my Dad and Brother DROVE my car from the repair garage that the insurance broker conveniently also own (OC Motors Reading!) After they told me my car is a CAT N write off as the repairs will cost in excess of £15,700!!! Conveniently the market value of my car is £16,000!!! They also valued my car at £11k before trying to take 16% off that value because I apparently didn’t declare 3 points were on my licence for a minor speeding fine from 2021! After arguing the toss over live chat (ironically one call insurance you can’t call! Everything is done over live chat) for over two weeks, repeatedly telling them I had categorically disclosed my points and asking them for evidence that to confirm I hadn’t declared information, they provided none and concluded they would still be taking 16% off my claim! All dealt with by their complaints company One Insurance…which is registered in Malta! Now, on to the fact that my car is absolutely not a write off by any stretch! This company, after demanding they send me a FULL breakdown of the estimate provided by their very own garage…they have tried to add items that were not even slightly touched! I hit everything on the driver side, the front bumper. The recovery guy drove it on to the back of the truck fine, no leaking, no strange sounds and no warning lights, and checked underneath…”there is no damage to the parts, it’s all cosmetic” According to this estimate, apparently I need new head lights both sides, new number plate, new back bumper, new exhaust, new sump, new side mirrors both sides…the list goes on! If I hadn’t taken photos of the car at the time I had the accident you would take from this estimate that the car had been hit by artic lorries, from both sides and front to back! and all in excess of £15k!!! They are absolute frauds! Refused to provide me with the courtesy car I have been paying for on my policy! I have since been quite frantic, in a complete mental and emotional whirlwind, Googling this company and wish I had done this before taking out insurance with them! They were fined just under a million pounds (including the sole shareholder personally!) in 2018 at the by the FCA for using client money to pay the shareholder, directors and fund their Malta based company…the same company who have incidentally dealt with my complaint! I have of course escalated this to the financial ombudsman and money supermarket but have had no choice but to retract the claim and try and get the car repaired myself…at the real cost! Or lose my car to a fraudulent write off and be in debt with the finance company! The fact that I have been paying insurance for more than half of my life and the one time I need to call on it I am completely duped and scammed! Reviewed on: 21st January 2023

Avoid One Call Accident Management

1
Avoid their Accident Management Company at all costs. If you are with One Call insurance and you are considering using their Accident Management Company. DO NOT under any circumstances especially if you are Fully Comprehensive. So many reasons not to and I wish that someone had written this so that we could read it while we made our decision. 1) You can’t speak to anyone beyond the initial call. Just live chat where they cut you off constantly. 2) They make errors. Serious errors like getting the 3rd Party vehicle registration wrong. Despite having the correct information on our claim form (we have a copy. Always take a copy) plus WE recorded the initial phone call ourselves so we can’t be blamed. This error means we are three months into a simple non fault claim. No resolution on the horizon. 3) Do you need any more reasons? You can’t speak to them and they are unprofessional. Avoid under any circumstances. Reviewed on: 16th January 2023

Extortionate cancellation costs

Astronomical cancellation charge.

1
This company is not flexible enough to allow me to transfer my insurance from one car to another then had the audacity to charge me £102 cancellation fee. This after initially saying it would not cost anything to transfer to another car. Reviewed on: 7th January 2023

Do not use this insurance company

1
I had to wait 4 weeks before car repaired despite telling them I needed the car for hospital appointments. You are unable to speak to anyone on the phone and it is all a live chat facility. Still waiting for a resolution to my complaint. You get bounced around different chat functions and have heard several people have encountered the same problems Reviewed on: 2nd January 2023

Struggling with the cost of living?

1
Struggling with the cost of living? Don't worry, One Call will kick your doors in for the sake of £60. Loyal customer of 5 years, with zero claims. Missed 1 x direct debit payment due to too many unexpected outgoings. One Call cancelled my policy, without telling me, and then tried to charge me for £170 for cancelling. I didn't cancel. I was unaware of the missed DD until they sent me a letter 3 weeks too late. It's 2022, and One Call are unable to contact you via email, aside from promotional emails getting you to sign up to other dubious policies. They sent a letter via pigeon in a festive postal strike. How did they eventually deal with it? Robotic customer service chat with zero culpability or compassion. Do you know what makes it worse? I tried a new quote for the exact same policy and it was £150 cheaper annually. Did they offer me that at renewal last time? No. They cancelled my policy for the sake of a missed £60, that they didn't tell me about. Cowboys. Reviewed on: 29th December 2022

Money grabbers

1
I cancelled a car policy 4 days after it auto renewed and had to use the online chat function as no telephone option on Sunday early afternoon even though this was within their office hours clearly stated on their website. I was charged £35.99 set up fee plus an additional £25.97 for the 4 days I was covered making the total I needed to pay £61.96. When I queried the £35.99, I was told was this fee was for cancelling in the cooling off period otherwise it would have been £55.99! So much for cooling off periods. When I did a simple pro-rata cost per month for the 4 days insurance it worked out to £201.27! I queried this and their response was “that’s not how it is worked out so your calculations are incorrect it is not pro rata’d” when I asked for his calculations he said it is calculated by the insurer and was unable to provide an answer. When I asked to speak to his advisor he said his advisor would give the same answer as they don’t get answers themselves as “we put the information into the system and insurer give us the cost back.” Their parting shot was that this was all in their Terms and Conditions. Good luck to anyone who has the time or inclination to spend hours trawling through pages of copy. What poor customer service and sneakily hiding behind the system. Yes, they get great reviews as it is simple to sign up etc. but beware of the hidden costs and their lack of trying to do the right thing for you. I normally don’t do reviews as my time is precious, but felt compelled to write one because they simply did not care.I won’t use them ever again and thank my lucky stars that I did not have to try to put in claim.
