Disaster of a credit card company - total fail! We recently tried adding our John Lewis Partnership Card to Apple Pay, only to find it blocked by NewDay, the card provider. Shockingly, this happened... Read more Reviewed on: 24th December 2024

Payment on credit card made in full and not credited

1
Card was refused today and the account page said payment, made in full before due date and debited from my bank account, had not been made. Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

NEWDay Card worse than awful

1
Loyal John Lewis and Waitrose customer for over 30 years, but the transition to NewDay and subsequent processing doesn't even warrant one star. Both my and my wife's card have been refused or not accepted as contactless at many outlets, including Waitrose. I am going to start food shopping at Sainsbury's using my new Sainsbury's credit card (which gives Nectar points (more flexible than JL vouchers). Such a shame! Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

Lack of Information

1
I could not find a new payee in the lookup list to pay through my online First Direct account. First Direct informed me that I needed to search for Debenhams(?) in the list! - and use the card number as reference. On the JL statement it says to use the account number as reference. Still not sure what to do. Very confusing. Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

Gave up and binned the card

1
Transfer from old card was abysmal. We didn't get the new card in time before the old John Lewis card expired and then when it arrived the pin did not. Some friends with a JL card received the card but not the pin, some received the pin but not the card. The layout of the statements is poor, with the transactions in small faint type. Worse, the card is not recognised by some providers. Their customer services were bizarrely rude and aggressive. In short, we've binned the card completely. Why on earth John Lewis signed up with New Day I have no idea they are known to be rubbish. Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

Transfer from previous card provider to NewDay badly implemented

1
The transfer process to the new card provided failed at every stage. I did not receive the initial notification of the change, was asked to use a code I didn't have to apply for the replacement and was initially rejected. The latest problem is NatWest Bank cannot verify the account details provided by Newday, who are administering the replacement card, so the payment process from NatWest is restricted and it is not possible to set up a planned payment at a future date. All in all it has been a shambles. Reviewed on: 23rd November 2022

New John Lewis Partnership Card

1
Just awful attempting to complete new card application! What on earth is JL doing. Not impressed with the application which I'm still unable to complete! Reviewed on: 22nd November 2022

John Lewis holding on to a credit balance on my old card

1
They tell me that it will take 15 working days - THREE WEEKS! to return this credit balance to me. In this day and age that is totally unacceptable. They cite 'we have lots of transactions to deal with at the moment' Absolute rubbish - It's already been FOUR weeks and still no sign of it. When I call them, they asked me TEN questions to verify my identity. I'm fuming - they must be making thousands by holding on to customers' money - absolutely disgusting. Failure after failure

1
I had the old John Lewis card via HSBC and never had a problem. Everything about the NewDay card is bad. Sign up was poor, payment failures, incoherent statements, sales showing up twice, card refused at multiple locations. I cannot find one positive thing to say. If I did not have some loyalty to JLP I would be gone. Reviewed on: 22nd November 2022

Shortcomings with new credit card

1
I was not able to set up my application for the new card myself, so I went into John Lewis in Cambridge and they did it for me. My credit limit is the same. I opted to receive text messages about my account etc., but after a barrage of texts I went back into my account and cancelled that option. I managed to set up an online bank transfer from my bank after some research and a few hiccups. To make sure it worked I made the minimum payment which went through. However, the minimum payment has not been deducted from the full amount I am due to pay on 29th November - which I will - but from next month’s statement! I am not even thinking about telephoning NewDay as I have been there once and it is a nightmare. I am going to write to John Lewis and copy it to the CEO and also, as a ps will suggest she reads the reviews Reviewed on: 22nd November 2022

Credit card ..(New Day)

1
Forced to changed existing JL card which had been very good.. 'new' card practically useless.. Credit limit at £1500, means already declined in 2 weeks . Ie about £800 working balance.. We always pay full. No means of asking for increase. Options only allow provider to adjust .. Gone elsewhere and CL using same information is 3x this. I wish I could give zero star.
