Review of the Paragon Bank, Mortgages:

Only recommended for archaeologists or historians

I took out my buy-to-let mortgage with Paragon Bank five years ago. Recently, they started demanding documents for repayments I made three years ago. The problem is not only that they are asking for very old documentation, but also how they handle the process. Instead of asking for everything in one go, they request documents bit by bit, which unnecessarily drags the matter out. Each time, they demand that I provide what they ask for within seven days and threaten legal action otherwise. Meanwhile, it typically takes them two to three weeks to reply to even the simplest questions. The whole experience has been stressful, inefficient and unreasonable. I would only recommend Paragon to archaeologists, historians, or anyone with exceptional ability to keep long-term physical records. For everyone else, if Paragon were the only mortgage option available, I would seriously consider not making the purchase at all. Reviewed on: 30th May 2026
