Fantastic Cashback: clunky experience

4
Cheddar offers some great cashback rates when you buy one of their giftcards, and can help you earn serious money back on your shopping. But the experience could be more smooth in practice - giftcards take up to a minute to buy and load (frustrating when you're at the till) and the only option to speak to customer support is via email Reviewed on: 10th April 2024

Fantastic concept & app, sometimes clunky in practice.

4
Buying gift cards through cheddar is great- you earn extra cashback! It's that simple. The app is intuitive and logically set out. On the downside, it takes about 30 seconds for the giftcard to load and so can be stressful if waiting at a till. Also, you have to earn £5 cashback before you can withdraw, and that of course is inconvenient. Overall though it's a great concept for those wanting to earn (more) money back on their spending. Great app, branches, and perks. Ts&Cs apply

5
I really like NatWest branches (my local branch has been refurbished so maybe I'm biased), there are plenty of staff and cash machines, although counter service is sometimes slow. The NatWest app is also one of the best I've used, smooth to open, secure, feature-packed and pleasant to use. Unfortunately, the student account can only be opened online, but the £100 and free taste card make this an attractive offering. The interest free overdraft is also useful, but bear in mind that this is subject to a credit check, so it may be limited to £500 or less. Reviewed on: 8th January 2024

Helpful staff, limited support hours

5
I like Skipton. It's a smaller building society with lovely, helpful staff and convenient branches. App and online banking are convenient, the app being functional but not perfect. Skipton sometimes offer competitive products, and their customer service is helpful. However, the limited hours that support is available is seriously limiting, as is the fact that bank transfers can only be completed Monday to Friday before 9pm. Reviewed on: 8th January 2024
Review of the Santander, Student Current Account:

Attractive benefits. Disappointing branches & app.

4
Santander's student current account is competitive. The 4 year free Railcard and interest free overdraft starting at £1,500 makes it an attractive product for students. Santander boosts is also a nice idea, but limited in practice. However, the app is rudimentary and slow, and banking in branch can be underwhelming, due to the short opening hours and long waits for counter service, not to mention the recent branch closures Reviewed on: 8th January 2024
