I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Abound. I had been an Abound customer for around two years and maintained my loan responsibly. I... I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Abound. I had been an Abound customer for around two years and maintained my loan responsibly. I never missed a payment, had no negative marks on my credit file, and recently repaid my loan in full. While I still had my loan, I noticed through Credit Karma that Abound was advertising loans at 9.2% APR, while I was paying 14.65% APR and had paid approximately £800 in loan fees when I originally took out the loan. When I asked if they could reduce my interest rate or combine my existing balance with a £9,000 top-up at the lower advertised rate, they refused and instead offered me a top-up at 14.9% APR. I then applied for a new loan but was told that I could not have two loan accounts and would first need to repay my existing loan before submitting a new application. I followed their advice, repaid my loan in full, and then reapplied. To my surprise, my application was rejected, with the explanation that, "as a responsible lender," they could not offer me a new loan. This was extremely frustrating. I had an excellent repayment history with Abound, never missed a payment, had no adverse credit history, and had just settled my loan in full. It seems unfair to advise a customer to clear their existing loan before reapplying, only to reject the new application afterwards. My biggest concern is that Abound advertises attractive rates to new customers while existing loyal customers continue paying much higher interest rates and fees, with little opportunity to benefit from those lower rates when requesting a top-up or refinance. Based on my personal experience, I found the interest rates and fees to be poor value, and the lending process lacked transparency and consistency.
