8 month backpacking trip

I have recently come back from an 8 month backpacking trip around South East Asia. Six months into my trip, I caught Dengue fever whilst in Indonesia. I was travelling alone, and was getting more and more ill as time went on. I was on an island that had no hospital, however was told by medical professionals that I had to be admitted to hospital as my platelets were dropping rapidly. My insurance with 4medical were brilliant. I was able to give permission for my mum to speak on my behalf due to the time difference and ease of making calls as I wasnt able to make international ones. They responded very quickly to the care I received on the island and the transport I required to get to the mainland to get to hospital. I then spent 3 days in hospital receiving care until I was better. I didn't have to make any upfront payments and claim it back, it was all sorted through 4medical. I plan to backpack again next year and I will definitely be keen to use 4medical again. Reviewed on: 10th September 2024
