Review of the Barclays, Current account:

A bank for everyone

5
I switched my current account to Barclays around six years ago as my previous provider, Nationwide, had facilitated my spiral into debt by regularly increasing my overdraft limit and credit card limit and because when direct debits bounced the fee they charged was the same value as that direct debit. I have severe mental health problems and physical disability so I couldn't cope and when Nationwide suddenly revoked my overdraft and credit card I was forced to open a new account so chose Barclays. Barclays have a flat rate charge for bounced direct debits (although I've never incurred this charge with them) and they listened to me when I said I didn't want an overdraft nor cheque book (back when they were more commonly used). I've become so much better at managing my finances since switching to Barclays, and their banking app is a big part of that as it allows me to keep track of my spending, I particularly like the new feature whereby each transaction shows an image/company logo (I have spatial synaesthesia and possibly autism.so visual cues really help me focus and not get overwhelmed going through transactions) and also where the transaction took place on a map if you click for more details. The summary of how much money has gone in and out of my account is useful and encourages to make sure the amount in is greater than out. Barclays helped me out of a hole those six or so years ago, I'm still paying off my Nationwide debts but my Barclays accounts are always in credit now with money set aside for emergencies.
