Unable to get human help

When a renewed card failed to arrive in the post I did as instructed and called the number given in their email to me. This was hopeless. The voice response system wouldn't recognise anything I said. Neither would it work when keying numbers into my telephone. It insisted that I was entering invalid codes - which I was not as I could see the keys I had pressed displayed on my phone screen. The online chat was no better. I was unable to talk with an actual human being until my sixth attempt. It turned out that their systems required numbers from the new, replacement card - the one I was trying to tell them I had not received. Starling were once a very good bank - but no more.

Starling were once a very good bank. Unfortunately they became a bit lax in vetting new customers - their Know Your Customer checks were deficient. As a result they have over-reacted and now are fearful of being caught out again. They over-regulate and over-control what customers are allowed to have and to do. They do this to the extent that payments from a European government agency are delayed in a pretence at money laundering/anti-terrorism checks - for a state paensio. Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

They exhibit little interest and customer care. When payments are declined at a petrol pump they just say that it is the merchants problem and leave their customer to try to find the problem unaided. This when it is fairly clearly a problem with the card processing company - whose relationship is with Zopa, not me, Zopa's customer Reviewed on: 24th March 2026

Huge increase in premium despite no claims

The last renewal was quoted with a huge (over 30%) increase in premium despite still not having made a claim - ever. Trying to get answers as to why didn't get any response. Trying to remove expensive e-bikes from the policy proved fruitless. Admiral just wouldn't or couldn't remove them Reviewed on: 5th September 2025
