Teaching my son money management

5
As a parent, I’ve always wanted my son to grow up understanding the value of money – not just spending it, but learning how to manage it wisely. That’s why we started using the NatWest Rooster Money account, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for us. The setup was straightforward. Because I already bank with NatWest, I was able to activate the free Rooster Card subscription. What I love most is the level of control I have as a parent. I can set spending limits, see exactly where and when he’s using the card, He’s also learning to budget, thanks to the app’s clear layout and features like savings goals and spending pots. We’ve even linked chores to his weekly allowance. The card itself works like any prepaid debit card – no overdrafts, so there’s no risk of him accidentally spending too much. And topping it up is easy from my NatWest account. We’ve had great chats about saving up for things he wants, rather than buying on impulse. It’s opened the door to so many useful life lessons – all in a safe, supervised way. He feels more independent, and I feel confident he’s getting a head start on financial literacy. Highly recommend for parents who want to raise money-smart kids in a digital world. Reviewed on: 16th April 2025
