Don’t bother complete waste of time!!!

I applied for a savings account, I had two weeks of emails back and forward robotic type replies from different people that seemed to be working from a checklist of stock phrases rather than actually reading the content of the email chain and responding accordingly. After going round in circles for two weeks I phoned and appeared to have my problems resolved and the account was opened for me and I transferred in money as my first deposit. The very next day I had an alarming email stating that I had withdrawn money from the account as I hadn’t. Shortly afterwards I received another alarming email stating that my account had my closed at my request, I hadn’t requested any such thing. I was so alarmed by this I thought my account had been hacked/compromised, so I had to excuse myself from work to urgently address the situation. Turns out I hadn’t done anything unbeknownst to me Saffron Building Society had closed my account and returned my money to my bank account with 1 penny in interest. It turns out I did not meet their criteria for the account, which was I had to have been a member since June 2024, (I had been a member since July 2024.) Seems to me that it would be sensible to decide if a customer is eligible for an account before they waste hours of everyone’s time requesting documentation and details be sent confirm identity etc, then open the account, take a deposit and then without warning decide that the customer was not eligible for the account in the first place and then send out emails saying the customer had withdrawn funds and closed the account when they hadn’t. Complete waste of everyone’s time. So in all honesty I have say don’t waste your time and don’t bother, there are better accounts out there with others. Reviewed on: 18th June 2025

Excellent telephone customer service.

I was having difficulty getting my current account verified in order to get my savings account with Saffron opened,, with emails going back and forward going round and round in circles, responses almost robotic like. However, I then called and spoke to this fantastic and knowledgeable lady today, who clearly understood the problem and addressed the issue immediately, account now opened. Didn’t catch her name but so glad I phoned as was getting nowhere by email, so many many thanks to her, super professional and super smart and knowledgeable, I wish I had called before.
