The friendly, fair, mutual building society.

Branch is open all day Mon-Fri & Sat morn; Staff are friendly and helpful; you get any share of bonuses regardless of which account you have; its easy to transfer to a nominated account; you get a account book for your savings not a card. Reviewed on: 13th July 2026

HSBC credit card is very useful

HSBC only rarely send you relevant advertising; payments are protected by the consumer's right act; they only increase your credit limit if you reply to their offer; their terms & conditions are clear & transparent; and they prompt you in time if they think you might be late repaying. Newbury - a real mutual Building Society for savers.

The customer assistants are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and polite. The whole process of setting up a savings account was easy and reassuring. It felt good to be back with a truly mutual building society with useful opening hours and a proper savings account book. Reviewed on: 6th January 2026
