BE WARNED -Our Family’s Wishes Were Ignored

Extremely disappointed with how Aegon has handled my stepfather’s pension death benefit. He left clear written evidence stating that he did not want a particular person to benefit from his estate, yet Aegon decided to pay the entire pension lump sum to that person. I understand that pension death benefits can be discretionary, but it is incredibly upsetting to see someone’s clearly expressed wishes apparently carry so little weight. Our family provided evidence and explained the circumstances, but the decision remained unchanged. This experience has really highlighted to me how little control someone may ultimately have over where a discretionary pension death benefit goes after they die.
