Amateur bank with priorities mixed up

2
Inflation is more than the dividend paid so my money invested with PCCU has actually lost about 2% . I shall withdraw my savings and put in a normal bank . They give 17% rebate to loans but 2.5 to savers. The AGM was unprofessional. The products (life insurance) is poorly publicised and explained . The bank has used their profits to build an extravagant and high- cost new head office - what is the footfall ? Crazy amateur bank , run by amateurs and front office staff quite condescending and unhelpful Reviewed on: 3rd April 2026
Reply from Northern Community Bank (formerly Pennine Community Credit Union) Hi DaHug, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are disappointed to hear your feedback. As you may know we are a not for profit, and the share of the profits and loan interest rebate are based on how well we have performed financially on the previous year. We try to be competitive with our returns back to account holders, and we have a range of interest baring savings accounts that match other banks and building societies rates, including our fixed rate account which offers between 4% - 4.5% AER on deposits of £5,000 - £120,000 and our Northern Saver account which offers 2.78% AER with no minimum deposit, withdrawals available and the interest is paid monthly. We acknowledge there were some issues with the AGM. We had changed venues and although we tested the sound and technology many times before the event, we struggled with the sound and we can only apologise for this. Our new head office building is to accommodate the staff from the old Nelson office and the Burnley office together in one place - there simply isn't enough space where we currently are. The footfall in the Burnley office is very high - we often have people waiting in the small front desk area, and we need to be able to have the space to talk through people's accounts with a level of privacy. if you would like to discuss this review or anything in my response in greater detail, please do get in touch with us at [email protected] Kind regards Annette Response date: 7th April 2026
