Review of the first direct, Regular Saver Account:

Whichever way foes it!

5
I have been a customer of First Direct since they were the first telephone bank to operate 24 hours a day, way before the internet. It was easy to contact them and it hasn't changed over the years. I have a couple of savings accounts, and an ISA with them. My regular savings account is a special for current account customers and pays a good rate of interest. I've never considered moving - why would I when i can do my day to day business on-line and quickly speak to a friendly human, as and when. Oh, and I don't need to remember my security questions now, as they have 'voice recognition'. Reviewed on: 1st September 2016
Review of the John Lewis, Car insurance:

Been with for years but haven't renewed!

As part of my car insurance package, I usually buy car breakdown, legal protection and excess protection. This year, after receiving my policy renewal, I checked their website, and noticed John Lewis were giving breakdown insurance free for the first 12 months. I phoned to negotiate my renewal, and I was basically told 'Not negotiable, take it, or leave it!' I mentioned the free car breakdown and was just told I wasn't eligible. End of......so, end of my insurance with John Lewis, after a number of years. In the past, I have been offered JL vouchers as an incentive but not this time. I am of an age where I don't mind paying a little extra for peace of mind but I do expect good customer service and respect. I was very disappointed with the attitude and, as a result, they have lost a loyal customer. I shall do likewise when my other John Lewis products come up for renewal. Reviewed on: 28th October 2015
Review of the John Lewis, Partnership Card:

Wouldn't change to another!

I've held a Partnership Card for 8 years now, having changed from a First Direct one. I pay in full every month, so have never looked for a card with a low charge, but I do like one that gives me a little something for spending my money. With this card, I get John Lewis vouchers that I can spend at JL, or Waitrose for some treats. I can check my balance on line and it's easy enough to speak to a 'real' person if I want to - have to say, I can't remember the last time I did this! I've never been bombarded with offers to increase my limit but every month I get leaflets for all John Lewis products, in with my statement. There to accept, or not. Overall, I can't fault it. Review of the John Lewis, Breakdown Insurance:

It's included in with my car insurance.

I have John Lewis car insurance - and have done for several years now. Fortunately, I haven't had an accident so can't comment on the insurance but have had to claim for a breakdown. It wasn't a breakdown, as such. I had been on holiday, left my car at me friend's house, with the handbreak on, and then couldn't move! I was pleasantly surprised in that I didn't had to wait long for someone to get to me - John Lewis used the nearest garage (don't know if others do?) and the engineer was thorough, friendly and, best of all, got me going again. My brakes had stuck....... Just remember to carry the contact details in your car - you never know when you'll need them! Reviewed on: 30th August 2015

Telephone banking you can do online!

5
I have been with First Direct almost since they started in1989 and I have never been tempted to move away. Before the internet, it was useful having a bank I could phone in the middle of the night to discuss my account and still use its mother company HSBC if I wanted to get some money. It's still easy now to make contact, which I usually do online, but good to know I can get in touch, on the phone, with any queries. Over the years, I've had savings, my mortgage and an ISA with them- they don't always pay the top rates but I feel safe with this bank and, to me, that's worth a lot. Reviewed on: 29th August 2015
