I’ll be honest—no one loves a payment app the way they love music or people. But sometimes, something as simple as PayPal earns a weird kind of loyalty because of what it makes possible. A few years ago, I was trying to sell some clothes online. Nothing big—just pieces I’d collected over time that didn’t fit my style anymore. At first, everything felt sketchy. Random buyers, messages at odd hours, people asking for strange payment methods. It didn’t feel safe. Then someone suggested PayPal. The first time I used it, it felt almost too easy. The buyer sent the money, it showed up instantly, and there was this quiet reassurance in the background—buyer protection, seller protection, a record of everything. No awkward bank details, no worrying if someone would “forget” to pay after receiving the item. Over time, it became more than just a tool. It was how I paid small artists I discovered online. How I split bills with friends without making it awkward. How I sent money internationally without feeling like I was being robbed by fees or delays. It just… worked. And yeah, there were moments it wasn’t perfect. Occasional holds, fees that made you sigh, customer service that took patience. But even then, it felt like part of a system trying to balance trust between strangers on the internet—which is no small thing. So when I say I “love” PayPal, it’s not in some blind, brand-worship way. It’s more like respect. It made online transactions feel normal, even human. It removed just enough friction that you could focus on what actually mattered—buying, selling, supporting people, building something.
