Don't support customers against scams

I have been a loyal PayPal customer for many years. Unfortunately recently was tricked by a scam company into taking out a subscription or £50 after a single £1.95 payment which was presented to me as a one-off but hidden in various smallprint as a trial that would continue into a yearly subscription. And conveniently their confirmation email with the billing info mysteriously never arrived. So the first I knew about this subsequent payment was when it was taken by PayPal. After providing copious evidence and screenshots of how this unscrupulous company operates and their trustpilot reviews detailing the many other people who have been misled by them I am seriously disappointed that PayPal would side with this company and not return my payment. I thought there was supposed to be much more support and protection given to customers against such activities these days. I am normally very wise to this type of thing and have never had to request help or make such a claim in the many years as a PayPal customer so am seriously upset and disappointed that I am being treated this way, as well as the impact on my mental health and finances. Financial Freedom

I switched to Monzo this year and it has been absolutely the best thing in terms of visibility and management of my finances, not just across my Monzo accounts and 'pots' but accounts with other providers too. The salary sorting is amazing and let's me to see clearly how much disposable income I have left after setting aside for bills etc. The savings challenge is great and allowing me to to set aside some money too. The only downside I found so far is that I had to post a cheque that was for an amount of greater than £500 as it was above the limit to scan on the app and this take some time to clear. Monzo has tonnes of features and the app is easy to use - they're miles ahead of the standard high street banks and I wish I'd switched sooner. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2026
