Review of the PayPal, Debit card:

Impossible to speak to a human

I opened a PayPal account many years ago when eBay first offered it as a means of payment and, that has mainly worked fine. Recently they offered me a physical Debit card and having completed all the forms I did an online eBay payment and that worked fine. However, the next time I tried to use it, I went round in circles. It asks for a verification number, to get it you have to open another Tab and log into PayPal Verify and it then displays the 4 digit number, back to eBay and paste it in, it then thinks about it and then asks again for a new Verify number so I got back to the PayPal tab, refresh it, get the new number, back to eBay and paste it in. I did this 5 times before giving up, cancelling the transaction and reverting to normal PayPal and 3 mouse clicks and I was done. I tried contacting PayPal and as I got no where with their Bot asked to speak to a human. They don't seem to have any, I got a message back saying since I had paid via traditional PayPal that everything must be fine and closed the transaction. A few weeks later, I tried again and got the same result with both going round in circles with their Verify and trying to communicate with them... Plus I tried using the physical card in a Sainsbury's shop and it got declined for a transaction for less than £20. So basically my rating is a big fat ZERO! Reviewed on: 11th June 2026
