DO NOT USE SAGA TRAVEL INSURANCE2

1
We are both 73 years old and took out an annual travel insurance policy with Saga in November 2025. This cost £221.28 in late December my wife had to be admitted to hospital with low down chest pains. After 8 hours at A and E she was told it was suspected gallstones. A scan in January confirmed this. I reported all this to Saga. They told me because it was undiagnosed not to pay the balance due on the holiday until it had been confirmed by a consultant. My GP consulted the hospital and confirmed it was gallstones. I reported this to Saga who then charged me an extra £342. 3 days before our holiday my wife finally got a telephone consultation with the surgeon at the hospital who confirmed gallbladder removal was the best course of action. I reported this to Saga who kindly told me that they were cancelling my policy as they could not cover my wife. After much outrage on my part they said they could do a single trip policy for an extra £295 !! We had no choice but to take it out with the holiday 3 days away. I asked about a refund on the annual policy and the guy said it should be about £192. When we returned from holiday I found out they had refunded just £112. It therefore cost us a staggering £746 for a one week holiday insurance. The moral of the story here is if you take out travel insurance with Saga DO NOT GET ILL. Needless to say never again with these shysters. It is an outrage and is just legalised ransom money. Reviewed on: 27th June 2026
