A generous system for limited credit

4
Paypal Credit is the best credit-card-like system I’ve ever used. With the recent addition of the Paypal Credit Card, it is the best credit card I’ve ever used with one exception. Like any credit card system, you pay for your purchase then have a limited time to pay it back. However, purchases over £100 can be paid back over 4 months without accruing interest. Additionally, purchases in foreign currency can (I think if using Paypal Credit directly rather than their credit card) have their currency converted to your own at Paypal’s own rate, which may be a better offer than the usual currency conversion fee - but I’m unsure if I’m right about this. I have been charged a currency conversion fee on one purchase made via the credit card, which I wasn’t expecting. Otherwise the system is the same - a monthly rolling bill for any outstanding credit, with purchases under £100 accruing interest if not paid off, and interest accruing interest. Outstanding £100+ purchases will also begin accruing interest on the remaining balance once the 4-month interest free period is over. Main drawback is the credit limit - mine was originally (years ago) set higher, then reduced to its current limit of £1350 due to lack of use. At the time there was no PayPal credit card and a lot of places didn’t take PayPal. I now make much greater use of my credit and have been near my limit several times, but there has never been an offer to increase it nor is there an obvious method of requesting one. This means that it has a negative impact on my credit score, even though I’ve only once ended up accruing interest. On the customer service front, PayPal is online-only, and I’ve no feel for whether I’d have to fight through AI bots to get to a human or not. I’ve never had to, but the facelessness of it all discourages me from reaching out and asking about how to get my credit limit reviewed. Reviewed on: 12th July 2026
