Crazy spike to car insurance for change in added driver

I had a car insurance with myself as named driver and my son (still learner then) with Hasting. I stupidly moved to PostOffice, because they offered a slightly better price (ca. £80 less). I wish I had not done so: when my son passed his driving licence, they asked in order to modify the policy the extortionate sum of 640£ – on top of what I had paid initially – and £20 extra for the admin work. A quick check online showed that Hastings would take me back, with my son as added driver, with a full licence, for ca. 600£. So I quit PostOffice, got (partially) reimbursed for the part of the year not used, and am happily back with Hastings. Do not go there - it is a disgrace. Reviewed on: 17th August 2026
