Review of the Saffron Building Society, Mortgages:

Good criteria, but still restrictive.

We opted for Saffron due to their criteria. They were one of a very small amount of providers who would consider a property with two annex's that are let out on AST's. It was a lengthy underwriting process. Received the correct outcome in the end, but there was hesitation due to affordability when the client was borrowing the equivalent of 1-2x their earnings. In the end, it all seems like it is coming to nothing due to legal requirements in the background, requiring an adult occupier form with independent legal advice for tenants who have a signed tenancy agreement in place. Things that the bigger banks would not have an issue with, which is a shame. Reviewed on: 24th August 2026
