BEWARE 'Little box' means you CANNOT drive at night!!

My son has been driving for just over a year and he has always bought insurance with a black box. He has had telematics black boxes with both Hastings and Admiral and always got good scores. This time he was fleeced!! Going for another black box, this scores you differently. There are 3 areas: Smoothness, speed and driving at night between 10pm and 4am. Every week they send you a score, with NO detail. He always got 3/5 for smoothness, 5/5 for speed but only ever got 1/5 for night driving when he literally only pops to the shops at night and occassionally drives to pub as he doesn't drink. NOWHERE on the T&Cs does it say DON'T drive at night. He has now cancelled his policy and gone elsewhere which has been a very costly exercise. They MUST be clearer in their info/T&Cs. 'Little box' means you CANNOT drive at night!! They should put this in their T&Cs.... 'avoid driving' is the wrong wording! DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Reviewed on: 3rd September 2026
