Unnecessary costs.

Our home was valued independently at £1.3 million and the mortgage we wished to arrange is just 13% of this. You insisted that we arranged legal advice, we were advised this was because we were at retirement age. We duly did so using our family solicitor, but you rejected this and we were forced to incur costs of £360 because you would only accept evidence of legal advice from the actual solicitors arranging the conveyance (Gorvins). It is unclear to us why this was necessary, we suspect it was a result of overly pedantic rules, and we incurred unnecessary costs for a simplistic question and answer question that we are fully able to understand. Our view is that the cost was unnecessary, incurred by overly pedantic rules that did nothing to enhance your level of assurance. We believe it would be appropriate for you to recognise this and refund the extra fees, and ask that you do so. Reviewed on: 14th September 2026
