LIFETIME COVER - WHAT A CON!

I have used John Lewis to insure my pet dog Sid for several years. The premium started off quite reasonable. After the first year the premium almost doubled. Sid then was diagnosed with a degenerative spinal condition but I had lifetime cover so thought I would be OK. At the next renewal Sid’s premium more than doubled again to £103 per month, but he had turned 8, so they told me this was the reason for the large increase in cost. Halfway through the year Sid turned 9 and at this point they started charging me 20% of any claim made. 3 months later I have just been advised that Sid’s monthly premiums have increased to £186 pcm plus 20% of any claim made. No explanation of why the cost has increased by 80% in one year. HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY THIS?? If they offer lifetime cover they should not be allowed to increase the cost so exponentially that my only choice is to cancel the insurance. Sid has an existing lifetime condition, so I will not be able to get insurance to cover this elsewhere. WHAT A CON! Reviewed on: 15th September 2026
