Life Changing

Step Change have changed my life in a way nobody else could. After spending three years in denial, having my debts build up because I was ignoring all letters and phone calls I eventually couldn’t run anymore and one of my creditors froze my account for two months and told me to contact Step Change. Even then, I contacted Step Change at the very end of the two months. I was afraid, embarrassed, worried at what they would say. When I called they were so understanding, reassuring in a way I can’t even put into words. They helped me set up a debt repayment plan, they took control and said I could repay all my creditors and be debt free in just over one year. And all of a sudden my chest didn’t feel so heavy, this huge weight had gone and I could breath again. I didn’t realise how much worrying about my debt and hiding it from friends and family was eating me up inside. The people I spoke to were amazing, so compassionate and made me feel like it was all going to be ok. I can’t believe this amazing service is free. I had never heard of Step Change before, I think a lot of people will be the same. I guess it’s not the sort charity you want to be familiar with. But they have been there for me when nobody else has been. Step Change deserve this award and so much more. People won’t be aware of them, but they are always there to catch you when you fall.
