Excellent choice for low mileage drivers

4
It was excellent at first. I estimated that I was saving a lot compared to conventional insurance, as I knew I would be doing a fairly low mileage (with both me and my wife working from home) but then I unexpectedly started to have to do long trips (due to family member's regular hospital treatments that were far away), so in the end I did not save - but otherwise I would have, barring the unexpected fact of the repeated long journeys. My reason for not giving 9 stars is that the mileage tracker device fitted in the dashboard stopped working at one point, unknown to me, as I was not logging into the app to see my usage. I only found out a few weeks later when I got an e-mail from ByMiles alerting me to it not recording any trips. It was well fitted in the slot, but stopped recording for some reason. Just removing and plugging it in again solved the problem. The good point is the ability to compare route distances to see which one is shorter and will save you more money in these times of breathtaking petrol prices. Reviewed on: 9th August 2022

ideal if you don't drive too many miles, I already renewed once

I was dubious at first whether it would actually work out cheaper than conventional insurance, as it's calculated on the number of miles driven, but in view of the lockdown, I drove far fewer miles than expected in 2020 and the first half of 2021, so it has worked out extremely cheap. I paid just about £120 in a fixed annual premium and I've been paying only £5-10 in terms of additional cost for the miles. Note that the cost-effectiveness will vary depending on your situation. Being in my late 40s without any past driving problems is what kept my premium low, and the fact that I worked from home anyway even before Covid and don't commute, but overall it would have been lower than conventional insurance anyway even without lockdowns. I'd say it might not be worth it if you drive over 10,000 miles a year, but in view of lockdowns I think I drove a ridiculously low amount of 2 - 3,000 in 2020. It will be higher in 2021, but still probably below 5,000 which means that most people who drive low mileages like that should save quite a bit versus conventional insurance. Service and communication has been excellent and it's nice to have access to the online stats of your routes recorded by the tracking device in the car, which is very easy to install and also protects your car against theft or unauthorised use by showing you its location at all times. no problems so far after 6 months

5
Ideal policy if you're driving short distances. The prepaid premium was very cheap and I spent almost nothing for 2.5 months due to doing almost no driving during the lockdown. Even after, driving just 3 or 4 miles a day you can pay just a couple of pounds a month. Exceptional value but I recommended it with only 7/10 stars because it wouldn't be such good value for people who have to drive long distances. Reviewed on: 29th July 2020
