Ethical and great banking experience

I was looking for an ethical bank and initially tried another one which has all the ethical credentials but I found the banking experience clunky, dated and impractical. And then they told me that as a self employed sole trader (musician) I should not have opened the current account, but their ‘business account’ which charges for every transaction and is actually called the ‘social enterprise’ account. From the first moment of signing up to Starling the experience has been entirely the opposite of that. Modern, app based (but just as ethical) banking, with numerous thoughtful features to make interacting with your account simple, helpful and informative. Being able to open an account in about ten minutes and then instantly be able to start using the debit card in Apple Pay without even having to wait for it to arrive in the post (2 days later) was just the start. A few weeks in I have only positive things to say and would highly recommend Starling to anyone and everyone. A great banking experience whether you’ve ever considered the ethical angle or not, and if you have, even better. Reviewed on: 16th April 2021
