This wonderful caring problem solving company saved my life literally

Had the letters written out to children . Tablets ready . Note to pin on door to ring Police Do not Enter . My son came home early he just had a feeling to go home . Lots of emotion he immediately rang Stepchange . What had set me off that particular day . A letter from a credit card company after I had asked them to freeze the interest or reduce it the letter stated they were going to put it up to 68% yet I had never missed a payment . I had other debts mainly from paying for private Neurophysiotherapy to try to walk again after being paralysed during a Breast Cancer Op . Surgeons temper at not being able to do it his way . He flipped me too fast and I fell down side of table still attached to breathing tube . From 8/10/2008 I was paralysed on my own with a young family to manage . I was 42 . This day in 2017 I had used all my DLA living Allowance every month to pay one card then use that one to pay another . There was no escape . I felt worthless and a burden and so so tired of checking a bank Account maybe 3 times a day whilst laying flat in bed panicking . I’m only saying this for you to realise the depths of despair I had sunk to . I cried throughout the conversation with Matt from Stepchange. He had the patience of a Saint .He promised a so,Union would be found after going through the first basic details . I also acknowledged this was my debt but they weren’t playing fair these credit card companies. I had written to them to say I had been diagnosed as a high risk suicude meant nothing to them . That night I slept . Even usually with Morphine and Fentanyl and anti anxiety and sleeping tablets I had Insomnia for years until that night . I am here . I am alive . My first words every day are Thank you Stepchange . For enabling me to see my Grandson grow these past few years I have never missed a payment . I have increased the payment amount every year by getting better deals . All the staff I dealt with mainly by email helped me, explained computer generated letters and said refer anything to them to deal with . They realised how fragile I was clinging on . I can only say a Thank you which seems inadequate but also to spread the word . I thought I wouldn’t be able to do this review but it makes me realise how far I have come and what fantastic help they give so many people desperate to be listened to. Reviewed on: 18th June 2021
